Well, that IS his home. When they're being raised at a zoo and literally their entire family and friends are zookeepers and animal handlers the responsible thing is to teach them as early as possible on how to be around the animals.
I didn't grow up in that enviroment but I do grow up in the country where rattlesnakes and other snakes, raccoons, coyotes, wildcats, etc. where a fact of life. That freaks out people I know who grew up in a city but OTOH I can't imagine having a kid someplace like New York where it's so crowded, there's so much crime, traffic and so many things in general that cause a higher mortality rate. It's a difference in what you grew up with.
I can't remember how many wild animals I've encountered in my life but BTW the only animal attack I've ever actually experienced was by a cocker spaniel when I was little.
