She always struck me as sort of a wack job. Still does.

I think you have advantages being older and some being younger. I had kids when I was younger and when I was older and I found it was very different being a parent at both times. Being older, you have more patiences and you just know more about what works and what doesn't. Being younger you are a parent for the first time and a lot of trial and errors going on. So they both have pro and cons. But in my experience, I found having babies in my mid 30s, I did a better job than when I was 19 and having my first child.

I figure having kids is a personal choice. I wouldn't want to do it again at 50...but that is just me. Congrats to her on the baby and thinking ahead and giving herself the option to have a child later in life if she chose to.

I think it's different because she already has a small child. It would be different if her kids were all older and out of the house. Starting over at 50 would be a bit scary. My mom did it. She wasn't 50 but in her late 30's. I was a year away from leaving to go to college when she had my sister. No kids in between.

Plus, there are a lot of grandparents that are raising their grandchildren or taking care of them all day while mom and dad work. The biggest concern for me is the fear I have about not being around for the big things in my daughters life. I'll be 70 when my daughter is 30.

Same situation with us. I think the main this is that if you are going to have kids at a later age, you should make sure you are taking care of yourself in a way that allows you to be active with your child and gives you the best chance to be around for them.
