Breaking the Waves made me so, so sad. Just permanently sad for weeks. Not that its necessarily a bad thing, but I don't know that I would purposefully choose it for myself again. Other 'sad' films have not had the same effect on me, even while having a strong impact (The Pianist, for example) I don't know if its the way it was made or if it simply struck a personal chord but I admit that I have stayed away from his films since.

This. If heartbreak can be portrayed in a movie, this one did.

That was false. Sutherland and Christie both deny the story.

I didn't like Dogville. The only reason I liked Breaking the Waves was Emily Watson. Lars von Trier is overrated imo.

That was gross. Was Gallo wearing a prosthetic?

James Franco performed oral sex on a guy(wearing a prosthetic)in his short film The Broken Tower. I've seen clips of the scene and it was very graphic.

I loved Breaking the Waves. One of those movies that stays with you.

I liked Dogville too, not love, but liked.

I liked Dogville a lot. Paul Bettany and Nicole Kidman were very good.

Paul Bettany! Yum, that might settle it then!

Breaking the Waves depressed the hell out of me too but I've seen films that have affected me more. Glengarry Glen Ross comes to mind. It's one of those films that I'm kinda happy I've seen it but wouldn't watch it again if you paid me.

Producer and Variety editor Peter Bart claimed to have been on the set and the sex was real, but Sutherland (in particular) and Christie deny it.

I wouldn't be too surprised if Gallo was wearing a prosthetic. mainly because his "penis" was poking through the fly of his jeans. That would make a prosthetic a little easier to disguise.

I hated Breaking the Waves. I loved Emily Watson and Daddy Askars in the movie but I just couldn't stand to see what that poor little simpleton went through. I could appreciate the movie for its artistic value but it was soooo long and just unpleasant that I've avoided all his movies since.

Back in the day sure, but nowadays she can't really make expressions anymore, so it would just be "frozen surprised batface" through the whole act.
