Cali, I do love you. That said...

(1) Showing respect for what other posters think has never been a strong suit of GR. You're either in the majority (and therefore have free reign to say whatever you like) or you're in the minority and called all kinds of names for it. There's almost no middle ground unless you count Chilly walking in with a few flippent and hilarious comments.

(2) Death will not save you from posters at GR. If you think the MJ thread was civil, reread it. I promise you there are far more inflammatory comments there than there are in this thread. Same can be said for the Anna Nicole Smith epic.

(3) GR is not about good fellowship. If it were, we'd give everyone the benefit of the doubt and, therefore, would have no reason to exist.

(4) There is no room for "accuracy" here and, as it has been show, the details of this case are not known to us so how "accurate" can anyone here be?

All that said, I'm not a fan of bashing the dead. Not because I'm above it but I think karma will come back and slap me upside the head. I couldn't give a rat's butt about the Kennedy's but I do think your private actions say a hell of a lot more about you than your public ones. Finally, my above points are in no way a reflection of what I think it right.

Boston began three days of mourning for Ted Kennedy today after his body began the journey from the family compound in Cape Cod to the city that has been synonymous with the Kennedys for more than half a century.
Thousands are expected to pay tribute to Kennedy, whose closed casket will be placed in the John F Kennedy presidential library and museum. Across the country, flags were flown at half-staff at government buildings and military bases. At the home of the Boston Red Sox, Fenway Park, players lined up to pay homage last night as an air force bugler played the Last Post.

Kennedy, though he had been ill for a long time, only finalised the funeral details in the last week. He told friends he wanted a "good ending for myself".

Barack Obama is to deliver a eulogy at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Basilica - commonly known as the Mission Church - in Boston on Saturday and will be joined by former US presidents including Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter. Kennedy's body will be flown from there to Arlington cemetery, where he is to be buried on the hillside overlooking Washington and close to his brothers John and Robert.

Family members gathered at the Kennedy compound today at Hyannis Port for a private mass before a motorcade left to carry his body the 70 miles to Boston, with mourners lining the route from early in the morning.

I went beyond "snicker" - I had me a big ol' guffaw... it helps that I'm reading a book on the Kennedys right now. My son is a huge fan of JFK but in reading that book, he's had his eyes opened to a few things that he didn't care for. In particular Joe Kennedy's remarks about the Jews bringing the Holocaust upong themselves... even though the Kennedy's were Irish and immigrated to escape religious persecution and starvation. irony, momma loves it..

Mel, do tell what book it is ... or if there are any other choice snippets in there that you can share.

I remember a long time ago reading about how oddly close Joe Sr. and Jackie were after he had his stroke (or something that incapacitated him).
