I don't think a promise ring is equal to women being thought of as property. Some girls actually choose to make this promise or vow and it has nothing to do with their father. I've also seen girls make this vow and then you find out they're pregnant their sophmore year...

Every girl I've ever known with a promise ring, there was a father involved. Or a stand-in daddy (step, godfather, uncle, preacher, etc)who has decided to officially annoint himself keeper of the golden hymen. As girls nowadays are going through puberty and maturing sexually at earlier ages, these people responsible for guarding their virtue need to start marrying (i.e. selling) them off to the highest/most esteemed bidders at earlier ages to compensate. Oh wait, that would be child abuse.

Talk about setting yourself up for an epic fail. Countdown to the perforated hymen starts now....

If I were a teenage girl looking to attract as many boys as possible (and get laid) I would get myself a promise ring.

It's a whole different world now and these up and comers are delusional if they really believe they'll keep their virginity when they can have any guy/girl they want. The temptation is just too great.

Britney led the sham for years...Vanessa Hudgens....then we had Miley. Miley looked promising, but we're now seeing that she's no different from the others. The list goes on and on. I'm convinced it's in Disney's contract that these stars profess their intentions to keep their virginity.
