From what he's said, it goes beyond just wanting to wear heels for him though. He's said he feels just as much a woman as he does a man, which has to do with his gender identity, which isn't about just wanting to do trivial things like wearing heels and stuff. And I don't think he's ever said wearing makeup & heels is what being a woman is all about (unless I missed that in some interview). The heels could just be what he's comfortable showing in public right now as he might still be figuring things out? Ugh, now I've defended Sam Smith, who sings some of the most boring and sappy songs ever. And sorry if I sound dumb, but I'm not an expert in this area.

A transvestite (like Eddie) is someone who takes on the aesthetic of the opposite gender. They do not identify as that gender. Someone who is transgender identifies as the opposite gender to their assingned birth sex. Someone who is born with male sexual organs can dress up as a woman all he wants without identifying with the female gender. Someone who is transgender will often attempt to undergo transition, whether MTF or FTM, with the aid of hormones and or surgical procedures. A transvestite wouldn't attempt to transition in that way. People who are gender fluid don't identify with either gender, or identify with different genders at different times.

To recap, transvestitism concerns how one looks, whereas transgenderism concerns how one feels about their personal identity.

No, no Rusalka.... he mentioned it in passing a couple of years ago and I remembered. Also it was another poster than mentioned TV vs TG.

Sounds like Eddie is describing being "gender fluid", not transgender. Trans people may vary in their gender expression but not in their gender identity... if you see yourself as a trans woman, it's consistent, whereas gender fluid people can go back and forth between identifying as a man or as a woman.

Thank you. I wasn’t quite satisfied with “dual”. It didn’t seem right.

I agree. I've come across this a lot, and I think that "transgender" or at the very least "trans" has become an umbrella term for many different forms of gender non-conforming identity.
