Oh I can totally see that. My family would be all about keeping up appearances.

Rosie O'Donnell's 17-year-old daughter Chelsea has been found, she announced on Twitter on Tuesday evening, hours after announcing that she was missing.

"Chelsea has been found and is safe in police custody -- thank u all for the help and light #missingchildren," she wrote late Tuesday.

O'Donnell's rep also told ABC News that “Rosie wants to thank everyone for their help, especially the South Nyack, N.Y., and Barnegat Light, N.J., police departments."

Police had been looking for her since Sunday and the comedian took to her website and Twitter earlier Tuesday to say she hadn't seen her daughter in almost a week.

"She was last seen Tuesday, August 11," a statement on her website read. "She was wearing a black sweatshirt hoodie, dark ripped blue jeans, women’s grey converse sneakers and a black backpack. Chelsea has a large tattoo on her right side of a dream catcher with the word ‘Breathe.’ She left home with her 6 month old therapy dog named Bear ... Chelsea stopped taking her medicine and is in need of medical attention."

O'Donnell's rep added that Chelsea "like millions of people, lives with mental illness. It has been a difficult road for Chelsea and her family and they just want her back safe."

The former "View" host, 53, also tweeted about her beloved daughter, writing, "chelsea and her dog bear - last seen in nyack ny," along with a photo of the two.

Brent P. Newbury, chief of police for the South Nyack-Grand View Police Department, told ABC News earlier Tuesday that his department had been working with area law enforcement agencies to locate the missing teen. Chelsea is O'Donnell's daughter with her ex Kelli Carpenter. The actress is mother to four other children in addition to Chelsea -- with Carpenter and her most recent ex Michelle Rounds.

I'm curious about the "in police custody" part of the announcement.

Custody transporting her, maybe? Or a psychiatric hold, since she had not been taking her medications?

Glad she's been found safe but kind of cringing that Rosie couldn't just say she needs medication and they are not sure she's been taking it instead of saying she is mentally ill. I think it would be the kid's right to announce her medical issues to the world, not her mother.

I don't think Rosie O is a beacon on stability.

It's shitty to have a rep announce that this girl has mental illness. She's an adult and has a right to her privacy.

She's 17, not an adult. That still didn't need to be public though.

if i'm not mistaken, i think it's pretty standard in cases where ill people go missing, whether it's mental illness or something else. it helps people know what they're dealing with in case they know where the person is, and can help authorities and people understand the urgency of the situation and/or that if the person is behaving erratically, it's because they're ill and not because they're a criminal or a junkie, etc.

I don't think Rosie was ever the shining beacon of stability. She's been in and out of relationships, most of what seem like overlapping ones at best. I think underneath she's a rage monster -- watch a lot of her back episodes on the View -- no kid wants to be around that all the time. I hope for her kids' sake that's just a public persona.

This. I think children should be even more sheltered from mental health issues being made public. It is SO hard to get out from the stigma of mental illness as it is, kids don't need to read about their mental health issues being talked about on social media. I have panic disorder and my family treats me like shattered glass. I'm not broken, so stop. For all we know, this kid got into a fight with Rosie or whatever new mommy she has at the moment, and her taking off had nothing to do with mental health. South Nyack, NY, and Barnegat Light, NJ, is a reallllly long bus ride. I wonder what brought her there. (I have no idea what mental illness she suffers from and no idea how she got to Barnegat Light. Just assuming from the news articles that were posted.)

ETA: I think what Rosie actually wrote on her website was not so bad. She just said she went off her meds and needed medical attention. From that statement, the meds/need of medical attention could have been anything, epilepsy, oral chemo, heart meds, and on and on. They didn't need to announce after she had already been found that she suffers from mental illness. I hope Chelsea is okay.

From what I have seen, Rosie never said she suffers from mental illness. A source gave that info to the press. As Nevan pointed out, Rosie just said she was off her meds. That seems to be a standard part of every missing person's report around here whether its diabetes, Alzheimer's, or a miss Flintstones vitamin.

Little more info about where she was found:

Comedienne Rosie O'Donnell's teenage daughter was found safe in a New Jersey home late Tuesday, hours after O'Donnell released a statement appealing for the public's help in locating her.
A spokesman for police in Barnegat, N.J. told the Associated Press that investigators in O'Donnell's hometown of South Nyack, N.Y. had informed them that they believed 17-year-old Chelsea O'Donnell was in the Jersey Shore community.
Barnegat Police Lt. Keith Germain said that when officers went to the residence, the person answering the door initially did not want to reveal Chelsea's presence. Police responded that they would not leave until she came out. Chelsea then appeared and left with police without incident, Germain said.
Rosie O'Donnell said in her statement that Chelsea had not been seen since Aug. 11. She had left the family's home with a therapy dog, and her mother's concern was intensified because she had not been taking needed medication. Chelsea suffers from mental illness, according to O'Donnell spokeswoman Cindi Berger.
It was not immediately clear what relationship O'Donnell had with the people who lived in the house. Rosie O'Donnell has a vacation home on the Jersey Shore.

I read elsewhere she may have been with her biological mother. And that Bear is ok as well.

Is Snooki old enough to be the bio mom? It would explain a lot.
