I'm with Novice. I just don't get the RDJ love at all. I'd expect deeper questions like that if interviewed by Krishnan.

No, RDJ just drove drunk with a loaded gun in his car, broke into people's houses etc etc etc....

For clarification Same book, different page wasn't a reference to their acting but their addictions.
However, now you mention it... If CS got sober (& hasn't blotted his copybook forever), he could have been a very good actor - personally, I believe that there is still time but that he is too embedded in his own demons, and, truthfully, too interlectually lazy/scared as it might mean exposing that "thing" that he's running/hiding from. *shrug* I am happy for others to disagree.

I should never have seen Platoon at such an impressionable age!

ii loved Platoon and Lucas too. And while the tv he does was crap, he's good in it. Spin City, two and a half men, same for his movie comedies-major league, hot shots. I think he's talented too, just a mess.

ok, i don't think he's that great in 2.5 men. he was good in platoon, though.

nov: as far as same book, yeah, RDJ had issues years ago, maybe as bad as CS. but i don't think we've seen that kind of behavior from him recently?

I totally agree CZB! I think that a lot of it is down to the addiction & what people do on drugs/alcohol/their own poison.

ie I do not think that sheen is clean or sober and I think that he admits that.
i think that there is a lot to be said for hereditary addiction. Martin Sheen will tell you that!

Everyone has a past and really while promoting a film that a lot of kids watch is NOT the time to be asking Iron Man about his past drug use.
I have a feeling that really backfired on the interviewer anyway.

I do not know about this one. I simply do not understand why they put Krishnan Guru-Murthy, a serious journalist, up for a junket, he is not the 'OMG Your so famous, I love you' E! fluff. He clearly states 'if you do not want to answer, feel free to not do so'. The RDJ team should have known that.

Actors are always complaining they want to be taking serious and when asked serious questions, this happens.
I am not saying RDJ particularly but I remember during the OSCARS, the actresses were all '#askhermore.

He got asked a serious question that he has been asked a billion times and has been honest about a million times. How about they come up with some new serious questions.

I think Sheen and Downey are both talented. In my opinion, one of the biggest differences is that it seems like RDJ has walked a very straight line since he got his act together -- and is humble and apologetic about his past actions. RDJ bottomed out and actually went to jail. Not Sheen, though. Sheen is caught in some kind of Groundhog Day of perpetuating the same stupid behavior that has always gotten himself in trouble. He really seems to have a heart of darkness. It takes almost nothing, seemingly, for a venomous phone call or tweet from Sheen.

this is the thing for me.

He's been open and candid in the past, and now he's moved on. What is the purpose in dredging it back up, except for shaming or addiction-porn style tabloid gossip? There is none.

Completely support RDJ refusing to take part in that interview.

Can I just point out the obvious here? You don't invite a serious journalist like KGM to do an exclusive interview, however short, without knowing that he's going to ask something a good bit more interesting and revealing than, 'What did you feel when you first read the script?' or similar movie-fan-magazine questions. It's like asking a war photographer to take wedding pictures.

Everyone there had a job to do. RDJ is contracted to promote the movie but he obviously shouldn't be forced to answer over-personal questions. The PRs, unless they're unbelievably naiive (which they can't be if they're handling an A-lister) wouldn't have invited an interviewer of KGM's repute if they didn't think he was going to ask revealing questions. And the interviewer's job wasn't that of a syncophantic fan, a local newspaper reporter or even a movie magazine editor. He's a heavyweight interviewer, and his job was to get something revealing, otherwise there was no point including him on the press list. If the PRs only wanted 'fluff', they would have only invited 'fluffy' lighterweight journalists. Do you really think they didn't know who KGM was?!? That is definitely their job.

Since RDJ has never had a problem being honest about his 'demons', combined with whatever the PRs probably implied (or agreed), there was no reason for GM to think he was on forbidden territory. In fact, if personal questions are going to be off-limits, it is usually clarified in advance, which is probably why you can see how shocked he and his cameraman were by RDJ's abrupt exit. But he was at no point disprespectful or aggressive with his questioning, and frankly, RDJ is usually articulate enough (and intelligent enough) to be able to deal with all that anyway - usually with a certain amount of humour and charm, too. Also, there were only 2-3 mins left of the interview, so there was little need for it to have been axed like that. If he'd simply said that the line of questioning had to change, the interviewer may have been frustrated, not to mention furious with the PR, but he would have carried on trying to get something interesting within that limit. IT'S HIS JOB. I can only think that RDJ was either promised a soft ride (by the PR, not the journalist), or he was being lazy ('Oh I'm not in the mood for this today; let the PR deal with this shit,') or he was being a prima donna. But not all journalists are bottom-feeders, and this one certainly isn't.

Wonder if he's using again and that's why he was so defensive?

See now if he hadn't have flounced my cynical mind wouldn't have gone there.
