This is so sad. He was brilliant. Too young.
ETA: Thinking I might have to pull out Drop Dead Fred for a movie night with the kids now. I vaguely recall it being a little mature at times, but in general I think it was fine? Oh well. I'm set on it either way at this point. Think I may cry harder than usual at the end.

What a sad day. Comic genius, and sounds like he was a great person too. Way too young![]()

Watching Drop Dead Fred saved me in many ways during my (far from great) childhood.
That movie made me feel "normal" because I could relate to Lizzie/Snotface as a child, and gave me hope that everything would turn out "ok" when I grew up, just like it did for Lizzie.
RIP Rik Mayall. And thank you, thank you, a million times thank you.

He was awesome in The Young Ones and Drop Dead Fred. DDF does have mature themes (and some like the Nostalgia Critic say it's inappropriate), but I like that it was more mature and a bit mean. The comedy in it reflected the way kids who are a bit outcast experience the world. I could relate to it, and so could a lot of other kids.

He was also hilarious in Jonathan Creek (he was in an episode or two, I'm a Creek geek).

NO!!! Not Drop Dead Fred! I STILL own and watch that movie. My Snowflake loves it too and for YEARS (and still to this day), I call him Snot Face! Oh boy, I am sad over this one. Must text my Snowflake and go home and watch Drop Dead Fred tonight.... RIP.

So it was a heart attack? At 56? Hes my age. exactly. Way too young. Says he went for a run and came back and had an attack. He was still a kid. He cant die.
Jack I swear.
^^^
i suspected it was a heart attack because of his age and because it said he died suddenly. heart attacks in men are actually worse when they happen to men in their late 40s-50s. my dad died suddenly of a heart attack at 51. no high blood pressure, no warning, he just dropped dead.
