Was it the same guy who painted The Duchess?

I like the idea of decorating a coffin. You could have all your friends and family sign it too.

I'll take a dark brown pine coffin and no one tag it or paint it, or anything like that.

Damn, between that Cohen song which is one of my favourites and Abide with Me, such a beautiful hymn, I'd have been a wreck at that funeral and I never paid poor Peaches that much attention while she was alive

It's like they hired Napoleon Dynamite to do the artwork.

i saw a documentary once about a children's hospice and when a kid died, they brought the (empty) coffin to his playschool and every kid draw a painting on it to say goodbye. i loved that. it may look tacky for an adult, but i'm with mcjag, who cares if it helps grieving or puts a smile on someone's face.

Yes! apart from the odd 'artwork' on the coffin (I think it's sweet too, though) that sounds like the most aesthetically moving funeral I can imagine. All that beautiful music and poetry....the Yeats alone would just knock me to pieces. And her husband singing that Cohen song, just devastating.

On a side note, it's amusing that as usual, Kate Moss looks beautifully elegant and appropriate, and Fergie's wearing ill-fitting dreck. Ah haha. Some things never change.

The Bloke went to a Humanist funeral and everyone there signed/left messages on the coffin. I'd never heard of anything like that happening before but I guess you should have a send off that reflects who you were in life and if you were someone who'd appreciate that then why not?

My aunt had a woven basket work coffin like this. She was a dedicated greenie/gardener/botanist and it really worked, especially as she wanted to be extra bio degradable after burial.

i kind of love the idea of that. but i'm a weirdo who wouldn't mind being stuck straight in the ground, no coffin.

I like that idea, feels natural. I'd like to maybe wrapped up in something nice, but a wood box doesn't do much for me when I think about it.

I like the basket work idea but would be a little worried about, ahem, "smell" issues but I'm sure they can find ways around that. I didn't get close enough to my aunt to check and, being British, we didn't go in for any of that "viewing" malarkey.

I think these are different because they're drawn/ written with real feelings as opposed to an amateur looking painting.

I can see why a sky blue coffin would lessen the grief and obviously the family wanted her picture, the kids and the dogs and there wasn't much time to get it done.

On another note, is Fergie becoming a professional mourner and will they stop her going to Mark Shand's funeral?

^ Yeah, Fergie being there seems completely random.
