i don't think clogged arteries from cholesterol did her in, if she was a guy i could see it. wasn't there an ice skater who dropped dead from arteriosclerosis in his mid 20's years ago? women seem to be very protected against heart disease when they are younger because of their menses (low iron i think).

anyways, maybe she was doing the speed thing, erm what's it called, for ADHD that starlets seem to use for their weight loss. that could give you fatal arrythmias. i'd be so scared to use that stuff, even if it's prescribed. say she's doing cleanses, eating not a lot to keep slim, has a imbalance of electrolytes and taking meds for the weight loss help. adderall?

^^^^ Yeah, Adderrall is all the rage among young starlets and even outside of Hollywood. I had a friend in my waitressing days who was put on it in her early twenties (legitimately to treat ADHD after her Concerta stopped being effective) and she had no idea what it was. She made the mistake of mentioning it in passing at work and had people practically begging to buy it off her. She nearly got sucked into it herself when she lost about fifteen pounds the first month, but was lucky enough to realize the palpitations it was causing her were too dangerous to ignore and told her doc it wasn't effective. A racing heart is a sign that it is NOT the right drug for you, but it works so fast to kill your appetite some just look the other way.

It could have been something as simple as smoking while on birth control.

Or from the long-term effects from past drug abuse. More specifically, heroin...
(I don't think - or, I'd like to believe she wasn't using at/around the time of her death.)

    Effects on the Body

The long term effects of heroin gradually weaken the brain and body to the point where chronic conditions can develop. According to the University of Arizona, long term effects of heroin on the brain appear as diminished intellectual functioning in terms of memory, verbal functioning and decision-making.
Long term effects of heroin on the body can become particular damaging for IV users. Additives and byproducts mixed in with heroin can accumulate along artery walls. When this happens, the risk of heart attack increases considerably. Byproduct ingredients can also introduce bacterial and viral organisms into the body and cause infection. Infections of the liver, the heart and the lungs can all develop over time.

Yes, or cocaine. I mean, it's known to damage your heart. And it's a big deal, still is I guess, with young people and Hollywood people and seemingly just about everyone but me. It terrifies me. But a lot of folks do it as easily as having a cig. I never will understand that...

Maybe she had some sort of heart murmur or other undiagnosed heart problem. Like the Basketball players who suddenly drop dead on the court. Still tragic.

Athlets dropping dead has a lot to do with doping, steroids and stuff.Non drug related sudden deaths are rare as they undergo a very strict check up before signing pro contracts.

Well she had bulimia cheeks so I wouldn't be surprised if it's ED-related.

Sudden cardiac arrest cannot be predicted. My mom had many cardiac check ups for years before her heart stopped. Without a defibrillator close by she would be gone. All the medical care after could find no reason for her heart stopping. They can't promise it won't happen again so they implanted a defibrillator. I promise you she never used any drugs or steroids.

Don't you mean Zenu? I don't think Jesus had a thing to do with it.

I also wonder if there's any history of high blood pressure. Bob Geldof's mother died relatively young from a cerebral hemorrhage, which can be caused by hypertension. She mentioned having a weak heart and high cholesterol, so if her blood pressure was also high that could have lead to a number of fatal problems. I assume a hemorrhage would have been discovered in an autopsy, but if it was sudden cardiac arrest they probably need toxicology reports to rule out any unnatural causes.

Still, I do think her weight was at least part of the issue. Whether she had an ED or not, she admitted to some pretty unhealthy dietary habits that could have worsened a pre-existing condition. Kind of like with Brittany Murphy - she died from supposed 'natural causes,' but it probably didn't help that she was also underweight.

ETA: Best wishes to your mom, by the way! Hoping she stays healthy and safe. :-)

I had a friend in college who was an aerobics instructor and incredibly fit, but at the age of 20, she had a cholesterol level of 240, which she was already having to figure out how to control. I'm not sure that is the case with Peaches Geldof, though.

I've had high cholesterol since I was in my late teens. It was highest when i was a gym rat weighing in at a whopping 105 lbs. Genetics, period.

But you have to have more risk factors than high cholesterol. Of course there are always freak occurrences of sudden cardiac death and this may be one. But high cholesterol alone wouldn't normally kill at a twentysomething.

Many years ago I had a friend who just 'stopped'. Went to bed and didn't wake up. His poor mother found him when she went in to see why he hadn't got up for work. The autopsy didn't find any signs of heart attack or brain haemorrhage and there were no drugs in his system. He didn't even smoke. The conclusion was that there was no physical reason for him to have died.

I know this is selfish but even though his end was obviously peaceful I think some of us would have found it easier to come to terms with if he'd died in an accident or from an illness. At least then we would have had a reason, something to rant and rage against. He was a lovely guy. One of those people who was good through and through. I still miss him now and it's got to have been 15 years or so.
