Joan Cusack's father died within weeks of the diagnosis as well. There is hope though. My husband's grandpa battled pancreatic/liver cancer back in 1991. He lived in Los Angeles at the time, and went to the same doctor that Michael Landon went to. Grandpa beat the disease and is still alive at 85 years old. Doctors can give you their best prognosis based on data they know of, but you never know. God bless Patrick and his family.
Michael Landon was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer early April 1991.
He last appeared on TV in the Tonight Show with his friend Johnny
Carson on May 9th, 1991. On July 1st, 1991 he died at the age of 54.
Like Swayze, Landon had just begun a new series for which he'd shot
the pilot. It was called "Us".

^Two clips from French TV announcing Landon's passing back in 1991.
In both clips you can see his announcement that he was ill, and at the
end of the second clip you can see his last appearance on the Tonight
show. He'd already lost tons of weight by then and was putting on a
    brave, maybe even cocky, face.
I'd forgotten he died the same day as Lee Remick, from the original
"The Omen" who also died of cancer at the age of 55.

Swayze responding well to cancer treatment
Doctor tells People that actor will continue same therapy at Stanford
    Access Hollywood
    updated 4:10 p.m. PT, Tues., April. 8, 2008
LOS ANGELES - Patrick Swayze has had an excellent response to his cancer treatment, a doctor for the actor told People.

In addition, Swayze told People the outpouring of support since announcing he had pancreatic cancer has been nothing short of spectacular.

Were thrilled and grateful for the positive response Patrick has shown towards his treatment. Also, we cant help but feel that all the prayers, meditations and good thoughts sent his way by everyone has made a difference. Thank you!, Swayze and his wife, Lisa Niemi, told People.

Meanwhile, Swayzes doctor said the former Ghost and Dirty Dancing star is making tremendous progress in his treatment.

Patrick Swayze continues to respond well to his treatment for pancreatic cancer. Because of his excellent response, he will continue the same therapy at Stanford, Dr. George Fisher told People.

In early March, a rep for Swayze confirmed to Access Hollywood the 55-year-old actor had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

Swayze had been undergoing chemotherapy, as well as taking the experimental drug Vatalanib to cut off the blood supply to the tumor.

Yup, unfortunately I agree with the smoke screen.

After seeing that photo of him in the Enqurier where he was quite grey and gaunt, I don't think Patrick has that much longer at all...

Pancreatic cancer is absolutely the worst--unless you have the rare case where you catch it early. But there have been a lot of advances in treatment (EGFR inhibitors) since Landon died.

The weird thing is I work with someone at Genentech which makes one of the most awesome drugs for panc cancer (Tarceva) and she saw Swayze the night of the eclipse a few months ago. She said he was really nice and grabbed her arm to point out the moon.

Patrick Swayze puts his real estate into living trust

Fans of ailing movie hunk Patrick Swayze have been left fearing
for the worst after learning the ‘Ghost’ star has put all of his real
    estate into a living trust.

The actor, who is fighting deadly pancreatic cancer, has filed
papers suggesting he’s getting his affairs in order.

The documents are traditionally filled out by people on the verge
of death, who want to make sure all of their final wishes are
taken care off after they die.

The paperwork, obtained by U.S. TV news show Entertainment
Tonight, was filed on 28 March (08).

Any parent would do the same when faced with a bad illness. This just shows common sense-not throwing in the towel.
