If you can't make the effort to help people, then you shouldn't be working the counter or working in customer service to begin with.

How was this clerk to know if Oprah was just looking/browsing or would actually buy?
A lot of people window shop and come back later to buy. Sounds to me like Oprah was going to buy the bag or buy something in the store. She wasn't just "looking."
Because in the psychology of sales, people display "buying signals" and a good sales person looks out for them.

The Butler is Lee Daniel's film - NOT Oprah. She is not even a producer. There are enough big names in this film that Oprah is not needed. (Shameless plug for Lee Daniels who is my home town honey. He deserves all the attention he can get for this film.)

I've not paid any particular attention to it but just from skimming things in newspapers it is being heavily implied (thanks to Pursegate) that this is an Oprah film. The only other person that I could name as being in it was Forest Whittaker and that's only because of Oprah's "up my own arse on my Mountain in Maui" interview. It's only after looking up the film itself that I found that there are a hell of a lot of well known names other than Oprah in it - Cuba Gooding Jnr, Terrence (Wet wipe it, bitch!) Howard, Vanessa Redgrave, Robin Williams, Alan Rickman, John Cusak and so on.
