In Diana's case there are still a lot of very strange inconsistancies and unanswered questions but if there IS some kind of coverup we are never, ever going to know about it, especially if it involves members of the royal family and/or the UK secret service.
I'm not sure how much the Freedom of Information Act would pertain to this - but also I guess that it'll be covered by 75/100 yrs secrecy papers to protect the living.
However, I'm sure that if there was a cover-up they would get around it via "national security" etc. statements.
