I have one friend who always manages to pop around when I'm "cooking cheese" - or at least he thought it was a euphemism, the first time he told me he was swinging by and I said fine, I'm just cooking some cheese. When he arrived he was expecting to find a meth lab set up in my kitchen, but I was actually frying up slices of haloumi. Now whenever we suspect anyone is doing something dodgy, we say "cooking cheese again?"
Ahaha, not ignoring you, just hadn't expected haloumi to have been mentioned so early on and skipped a few pages, I guess

When the boyfriend's family saw it for the first time they were really weirded out cause they thought it was fish.

I need to buy some halloumi. It's one of those things that I love but always have in restaurants or at other people's houses and that I never make myself but after this thread I'm thinking it might become a regular thing.

New favorite local cheese: East of Edam. Bonus points for the Steinbeck pun.

We we went to the cheese shop again yesterday. we got several new varieties to try. I'll try to detail them later. Cheese for dinner after I get off late tonight!

I go through a couple of blocks a week. It's the only cheese I eat daily (for vitamin B) and a little goes a long way. I also like the fact that it doesn't use animal rennet so it's a little better for vegetarians than cheese that uses the lining of the stomach (which I will still eat but I don't go out of my way for). Feta, haloumi and goats cheese are my top 3.

I second the Aldi recommendation. I always find a nice selection. This past weekend I bought a mild goat cheese that had roasted garlic, sundried tomato and basil. I also bought a brie log, some mozzarella and a smoked mozzarella for the hus.

I'm on board with the smoked cheese hate. Blergh. R. likes to eat smoked cheeses with smoked oysters. I gag just looking at the oyster tin. Wretched beats in there.

We have a local Amish market that makes the most delicious cheese; especially their Farmers cheese and horseradish cheddar.

As much as I love cheese I have to limit myself. I'd easily be 250 pounds again if I eat all that I want to.

i don't hate all smoked cheeses, it really depends. but like all smoked foods, it can really be hit or miss.

I used to buy this Japanese hand roll that was smoked cheese, lettuce and something else and it was fucking delicious. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat smoked cheese but I wouldn't turn my nose up at it either.

We have a local goat farm that makes and sells cheeses and all sorts of other great goat milk products. And I was with my parents this last week at the beach due to a family matter, and guess what Dad made for supper one night? Baked Mac and cheese. Bechamel and all -- no Velveeta for us! I'd eaten so much already that day (football Saturday) that I did not try it, but I thought of you all when Dad said "cheese."
