^ You can't remake a classic. I say leave it alone!

I like Natalie Portman. Keira Knightley and Lindsay Lohan aren't even on the same playing field as she is. I'm not surprised she beat them out.

I don't think Natalie has the ability to play such a passionate character. Maybe they should get an actress that plays in those Masterpiece Theatre type series, like Romola Garai (Daniel Deronda), or Daniela Denby-Ashe (North and South).

Maybe Madonna could have a crack, once she's through butchering Casablanca.

I don't know, Wuthering Heights is a classic of literature and those are always being adapted for different generations, like Shakespeare.

The original WH, with Olivier and Oberon, could certainly use an update, imo. The one with Fiennes and Binoche was not very good at all.
Whoever they cast as Heathcliff needs to be fierce and intense. Portman is not right for this role at all.

Of course I meant to say Portman is not right for Cathy.

Okay, let's take the other route- who would YOU (any of you) seriously like to see in the major roles?

I love Natalie Portman's acting, and I'm excited this movie is going to come out.
I would boycott the movie if they cast Lilo for the role though.

I don't know! None of the known names would be good for Cathy, hence my suggestion above to hold a Scarlett O'Hara style search for the right actress. She doesn't have to be a neophyte-after all, Vivien Leigh was a working British actress when they found her.

I also said above that Heath Ledger would have made the perfect Heathcliff. Colin would be good, but the idea doesn't really excite me. He should have a slightly exotic, dark look, brooding and intense. Sigh. I just don't know.

I don't have a huge problem with Natalie Portman OR Keira Knightley as Cathy, but if we're recasting - here's a thought. What about Rose Byrne (from Damages)? I think she's an Aussie, so she should be able to manage the accent, and she kinda looks the part....

And Colin - yeah, I can imagine him as Heathcliff.

Joaquin Phoenix, back when he was hot and not bloated, would have been a good Heathcliff. He has the brooding, dark, intense air that the role needs.

You're right! Maybe he could get himself together enough to do this.
