IMO Natalie is an overrated singer, and how she managed to release a best of album is a mystery.

As far as I know this is her 'career'.
She appeared in the Aussie soap "Neighbours"
She left and became a singer with THAT song
She married Daniel Johns
erm, that's it.

I think that was more a result of Aussie bogan culture where "real men don't eat quiche"... and Daniel looks like a quiche eater.
(Sorry, really random reference there.... Amazon.com: Real Men Don't Eat Quiche: Books: Bruce Feirstein,Lee Lorenz or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Real_Men_Don't_Eat_Quiche for more info. A piss funny book, if you're ever after a laugh!)
I don't think he's gay, he just doesn't suit the Aussie "real men" image - a softly spoken singer who has admitted to an eating disorder. Hardly "manly" behaviour.

There was a really awesome interview with Daniel on Enough Rope a year or two back (can you tell I'm a bit of a Silverchair fan?! I'm assuming it's coming through by now!)
When he was recovering from his problems with anorexia and that arthritis thingymibob that really buggered him up for a while, he loved living in England with Natalie where he was (and I quote) "Captain Nobody". Silverchair hit the big time when the guys were 15 - remember, 'Nirvana in pyjamas'. This interview was really amazing, because he was open about how much all of that really fucked with his head. Little things like having to drop out of surf life saving and not go to the beach so much because he'd get mobbed everytime he turned up at his local surf spot. It would be pretty weird when you're in your late teens, let's be honest! How many kids jamming in garage bands a. actually make it to the big time or, more importantly, b. realisitically aim for, expect and brace themselves to hit the big time as youngsters?
But this was all while Silverchair were on that "are they broken up permanently?!" break from production, to let Daniel get better. While he didn't have to be in Australia where Chris and Ben are based, he could be with his wife in her adopted home of England (although why she's based there, fuck knows). And he loved it - he had these awesome stories of just being able to wander around as a nobody and get himself back together. The worst it got was having the hugely entertaining experience of people staring at him in the queue at Sainsbury's before someone would go "'Ey, ain't that Natalie Imbruglia's husband?". He loved being Mr Imbruglia, rather than Daniel Johns, Major Music Star and Aussie Legend.
When Silverchair got back together.... or even while he was doing that Dissassociatives stuff with Paul Mac - Daniel came back to Australia for work. We can speculate why Natalie didn't follow, but for whatever reason, she didn't. Why the hell showbiz couples expect to maintain a steady, functional relationship (not even a simple attraction but a *marriage*, a supposedly lifelong, or at least long term serious commitment) at opposite
ends of the world is totally beyond me.
If they've been living apart for this long, it's not surprising they've split up. But it's still sad.

Hmm... worrying. Not the first time I've heard those rumours. Although, those rumours first appeared around the time of Neon Ballroom, which is an absolutely brilliant though thoroughly depressing album, full of anguish and songs about obvious problems with depression. Since then he's come out and been honest that he was anorexic during these years when he was dropping heaps of weight and "obviously" on heroin according to rock music gossip (because he was all miserable, losing weight and they had toured with the Red Hot Chili Peppers for Freak Show. So he was *obviously* picking up bad habits. Not saying he couldn't of, I'm just pointing out there has been a far more mundane reason revealed since!)

I'm sorry but I think it's tackmongous!! He looks like he's eyeballing some far off pool cleaner-and wearing smudged eyeliner, and Nat looks like she is hanging on for dear life in the hope the she can 'change' him.

Was it rheumatoid arthritis? Something as a result of his anorexia?

I am not a Silverchair fan [didn't even know who he was until a few years ago] but i remember watching that interview on youtube. It was a very good interview. The "Captain Nobody" part gave me the giggles

I am a HUGE Silverchair fan...
I must admit I was quite surprised when I heard this...they are both beautiful and looked like a couple that was going to last!
Daniel Johns is a gorgeous man and he has the most phenomenal voice...
I think it's wonderful that he came out and openly discussed his issues with anorexia...more men need to come out with their struggles and stop hiding! Eating disorders affect males too! (Which some people still fail to realize this!)
Neon Ballroom is a very depressing yet brilliant album. My personal favorites are of course the heartbreaking 'Ana's Song' and 'Emotion Sickness'...
Great album...it must have been so emotionally draining for him but it's truly amazing that he chose to share such a dark and personal time in his life with the world through his music...
I don't know if I could do that!

I'm confused for a couple of reasons here. First, why was Natalie Imbruglia "based" in London? Seriously, why did she need to be there? Isn't she from Australia anyway and um, her husband was in Australia? What is her job? I'm sorry but I don't understand this. I don't understand how she had to be "based" in London when she has NO CAREER!
