When I saw Natalie Cole on the Grammy Awards I asked out loud," What is she doing here?"
It's over Natalie. Fade away gracefully and maybe one day, your offspring will do a duet with a CGI version of you after no one could Jump Start your Heart.
Winehouse may have personal issues, but the Grammy isn't about personal achievement, it is about musical achievement. Amy earned every one of them.
If personal issues precludes one from winning a Grammy, Michael Jackson, Kanye West, and every other musician who has used drugs, been an alchie, or is just a plain douche should start sending theirs back.

If they only gave Grammys to people who were clean . .. . uh, there'd be no grammys.

Janis was a frequent heroin injector- documented in all her biographies, but got a super strong dose that day at the Landmark- 50 to 80 % percent pure. Her and her lover Peggy Caserta had shot up on and off for years. She had been injecting speed for a long time before she started H......
as for Burroughs, yeah 80 years as a junkie sounds like lots of fun. I wonder how much time out of the 80 years he spent jonesing...

Oh my, lighten up, Francis. Burroughs, from all reports, did enjoy his many years as a junkie and maintained, right up until the end, that it was good fun. As far as Joplin, it's still disputed whethr or not she was a junkie or a chipper. And Morrison, well, you must have a sense of humor in there somewhere, right? (by the way, he died of heart failure brought on by heavy drinking and aggravated by his ballooning weight).

Burroughs didn't spend a lot of time jonesing. He could afford his habit. Ever hear of Burroughs typewriters? His family was loaded.

Actually it was adding machines and unfortunately the business was sold before he had a chance at the money. His parents weren't poor but they weren't rich either. They did, though, keep him on a 200 dollar a month allowance until he was roughly 40-years-old. And yes, he did jones quite a bit but considered that part of the experience. I love Burroughs. Actually, I love anyone who lives their life as a big fuck you to society. I don't know why this is, although I assume I must have 'authority issues'.

I'll tell ya what I think sends a bad message:
when marginally or UNtalented siblings or offspring
of really talented people get careers in the biz,
based 99% on the promise of their relation to said
talented person.
Natalie Cole has always sounded like a cat trapped
down a drainpipe (remember the seventies "hit"
"This will be"?). She only got her grammy's for
being the late great Nat's offspring and for the
great production of her "Unforgettable" album.
Her vocals were NOT the reason for her win.

what about the many, many who've done the drugs and lived? Keith Richards, Mick, Nikki, Tommy - fucking practically anyone who is connected with Rock & Roll (actually ALL music). For me, it isn't so much the drug thing as Natalie's hypocrisy - apparently, it knows no bounds. You don't badmouth people for using drugs when you've done the same shit. Natalie is certainly no better - she's just hating 'cause Amy kicked ass at the Grammys. At least the skinny little crackwhore appears to be getting help and she didn't ride into the music business on her daddy's coattails.

^^Plus, Amy sounds more soulful and black than Natalie Cole could ever dream of sounding. Like Ringo said 'grapes'.

She definitely won't be getting any Grammys for that.
I love Elvis, but Lisa Marie can't sing worth a damn. Plus, she's in the creepy Co$.

"I don't think she deserved it," said Cole, who also has battled drugs and booze. "I think she needs to get her life together first, and then get the awards later." Cole said Winehouse was talented but "crazy."
|
Well, then she's better than Natalie Cole...who's untalented and crazy. And a bitch!
I'm glad she won the awards now, during her fight for sobriety. Maybe it will help her realize how good she really is and that she's wasting her talent. Things happen for a reason ya know...
