What's that thing again about not biting the hand that feeds you? Because for example Lee Daniels will most likely not be too interested in working with her again after this.

    Mo'Nique Fires Back: I Wasn't Blackballed — the Offers Didn't Make Sense

Mo’Nique is speaking out and taking issue with comments made by Precious director Lee Daniels, who said the Oscar-winning actress fell from grace in Hollywood for making unreasonable demands.

Daniels comments essentially confirmed reports that Mo’Nique was “blackballed” following her Best Supporting Actress Oscar for the 2009 drama. But in an interview Thursday with Don Lemon on CNN Tonight, the actress insisted she was offered parts in other movies, “they just didn’t make sense to me.”

“It wasn’t that I was blackballed like Mr. Daniels said… the phone was ringing and the scripts were coming but the offers that were associated with them made me say ‘I can’t accept that,’” she explained, adding that taking such offers would have sent a negative message to other African-American women.

“If we continue to accept these low offers, how do we make a change?” she asked.

During her interview, a clip was played of Empire creator Daniels’ appearance on CNN the previous night. In that interview, Daniels told Lemon that Mo’Nique hadn’t “played ball” and didn’t understand the business of Hollywood — which ultimately caused her to fade from the spotlight.

“I think that there were demands that were made on the Precious campaign that everyone knows hurt her. I told her that,” said the director. “You’ve gotta play ball. This is not just show — it is show business.”

Mo’Nique told Lemon she watched Daniels’ interview from home and was stunned by what he said. “It shocked me… I was yelling at the screen, ‘Don, please ask him what the demands were!’

She continued, “There were no demands, there was a request from the movie studio that I fly to France for the Cannes Film Festival. I simply said, ‘I respectfully decline.’”

She explained that she was busy working on her late-night talk show on BET and had additional responsibilities as “a wife and a mommy.”

“I had a couple of days downtime and I wanted to spend that with my husband and my kids,” she said. However, Mo’Nique said the studio [Lionsgate] continued to pressure her with an offer to upgrade her hotel, but again she declined. When the third call came asking: “What is it going to take to get Mo’Nique to the Cannes Film Festival?” her husband, who served as her manager, asked: “Is there a number associated with it?”

The studio responded that it would never pay for anyone to do promotional work for a movie, and Mo’Nique pointed out that she only received $50,000 for her role in Precious. She also hinted that perhaps there should have been compensation offered for travel to promote the movie.

“It really wasn’t about the money and I am not complaining because I signed up to do it [Precious] with my friend,” she said, appearing to choose her words cautiously. “When the movie studio said we can’t pay you to do this, we didn’t have a problem with that.”

But that’s when trouble started brewing and reports came out that she was being “demanding and difficult,” she said.

As for Daniels’ evaluation of her actions at the time, he told Lemon on Wednesday night: “Sometimes artists get in their own way.”

Rather than a big studio movie, Mo’Nique said she is now focusing on independent films, and will next appear in the indie drama Blackbird, which co-stars Isaiah Washington and is directed by Patrik Ian Polk. “When we got it, we knew it was necessary we get involved, to have ownership of it and to tell this personal story,” she said of the film.

Because going to Cannes is like going to the moon, right, and you can't take your family with you?

She knows that she and Sidney were asking for money to promote the film and to show up at other events for the movie and for the Oscars!! If she thought she was going to become this high paid black actress because she won an academy award when all her previous movies have been low rent chitlin circuit comedies..she needs to wake up!! They left her right there on BET with her now canceled talk show!!

She is so full of crap. Comparing herself to a 40-hour a week employee. I hate to tell her, that NO if you're salaried and get asked to work on Saturday, you DON'T get overtime pay. She really just needs to sit down and shut up.

Mo'Nique Says Lee Daniels Wanted Her To Play Cookie On TV Hit 'Empire'

    1:01 PM EST, February 27, 2015

Did Mo'Nique lose a starring role in the hit new series Empire because of her reputation for being difficult?

Mo'Nique told INSIDE EDITION that she was offered the headline making part of Cookie, but instead it went to Taraji P. Henson, who has become Empire's breakout star.

Mo'Nique explained to INSIDE EDITION's Les Trent that the show's creator, Lee Daniels, who directed her in her Oscar winning role in Precious, wanted her to play Cookie.

"When he called me up, he offered me the role in Empire as Cookie," she said.

Mo'Nique said Daniels even sent her a script.

Mo'Nique explained, "Maybe four days had gone by, and I hadn't heard anything. So I'm trying to reach out to him to say, what time do I need to be in? Where do I need to be? When he finally returned the call, he says listen, the executives at Fox said that you're difficult."

Trent asked, "Mo'Nique are you difficult to work with? This is Lee Daniels, your friend, saying these things."

"When I hear Mr. Daniels making those comments, he and I know that that's not true," she said.

Mo'Nique said her reputation for being difficult may have come from the fact that she wanted to be paid for promoting Precious at the Cannes Film Festival in 2009.

Lee Daniels told CNN, "There were demands that were made from her, on the Precious campaign that everyone knows about that hurt her."

Mo'Nique said, "If you work a job Monday through Friday and you work 40 hours and then your boss says, 'well I need you to come in on Saturday,' do you do that for free, or is that considered overtime?"

INSIDE EDITION's Les Trent asked Mo'Nique about Christian Bale, whose career has thrived despite an on set screaming fit that made headlines around the world.

"Do you think that there is a double standard when it comes to men and women?" Trent asked.

Mo'Nique replied, "Of course there is a double standard but it's not just in this industry, that's just life, period."

OK. Lee Daniels is a great guy based on what I have witnessed personally. He grew up near Will Smith, but in a neighborhood not quite as nice as Will's. His mother was hard working and he respected that. His neighbors worked as domestics for Ed Snider who owns the Philadelphia Flyers, as well as other interests. Together they all saw the potential in Lee and wanted to help get him a better life. Although it was illegal, Ed Snider allowed Lee to use his address to register to attend our local high school. At this school he took advantage of every opportunity and was loved by all. He was inducted into the school's Hall of Fame along with others graduates who have achieved great success. To this day he takes calls, and responds to messages, from current students who want advice on various topics. The guy is loyal, down to earth, and was very easy to deal with on a fund raising campaign - without asking for anything in return. I'll take his word over Mo'nique.

All the blind items I read about her said she turned into a primadonna after winning that Oscar. And I agree that she should have negotiated that the producers should have made arrangements for her family to come with her. Her husband sounds like a bit of a douche too.

My wish for Diva (and for us because it would so fun to watch her react) is that a show comes on with Mo'nique, and Amber Rose as her daughter!
