Miley Cyrus Defends Using Little People in Concert: "We're Making Them Feel Sexual and Beautiful"
It's not degrading, it's cute and sexy! In a new interview with MSNBC's Ronan Farrow, Miley Cyrus defended her use of little people and black backup dancers on her Bangerz tour. The 21-year-old "We Can't Stop" singer denied recent criticism that her show is racist and exploitative.
"It's really funny how serious people take it. And they're like, you're racist. And I'm like, 'Really?'" she told Farrow. "We're like a bunch of kids dancing around in, like, bears, but we don't do choreography," she says of performing with her backup dancer. "They're just like dancing, doing these cute moves and they're awesome dancers like just on their own. It's not me telling them how to be."
As for the claims that she's exploiting little people? Cyrus said she doesn't worry about that. "No, because we're making them feel sexual and beautiful," she explained. Citing one of her female little person dancers, the "Wrecking Ball singer explained: "We're all about lifting her up and making her feel so sexy all the time, and having her dance -- she's actually an awesome dancer."
Farrow, 26, also interviewed one of Cyrus' former backup dancers, Hollis Jane, who recently spoke out about feeling "degraded" while wearing a bear costume at the singer's 2013 VMAs performance. Jane said she's not blaming Cyrus, but explained: "Little people need to stop being seen, in my opinion, in the media as jokes."
Rather than getting worked up about the criticism trailing her Bangerz tour, Cyrus revealed to Ronan that she's been spending her free time watching her favorite movie, 1990's Days of Thunder, starring Tom Cruise and ex-wife Nicole Kidman. "I watched it three nights in a row" she confessed of the racing flick, which introduced the couple to one another. "I want to be Nicole Kidman so bad, slash I'm kind of obsessed and kind of want to -- I don't know if I want to be Nicole Kidman or if I want to be Tom Cruise, because his outfits are better."

Well I'm sure that little people all over the world are now thanking Miley for telling them that it's ok to feel sexy and worthwhile. Now they can enjoy relationships and eventually get married and have kids and all that other stuff that they've never thought of doing ever before...As for the claims that she's exploiting little people? Cyrus said she doesn't worry about that. "No, because we're making them feel sexual and beautiful," she explained. I like to dress up like a joint anytime I want to feel sexy and beautiful.

Choreography doesn't mean you're "telling them how to be", Miley.
There's a reason for choreography. And that reason is to make the show (whatever show that may be) look cohesive, and not look like a hot mess.
Even solo ballad/non-dance-y singers choreograph their performances... how to hold the microphone, where to hit a certain spot on stage at a specific time (mostly so that the audience sitting in different places of the venue can see you perform), etc.
Without choreography there is no focal point, and your show ends up looking like one of those Magic Eye Posters... you don't really know where to look, and it gives you a headache trying to figure out what's going on.
This interview proves that she has no idea what she is doing ( as if we already didn't know)

Yes, she has no idea what she's doing, which is why she is one of the biggest acts in the world.
All of God's children are not beautiful. Most of God's children are, in fact, barely presentable.
If I wanted the government in my womb I'd fuck a Senator
Not because she puts on an enjoyable performance..... but because she puts stranger's thongs in her mouth, and has little people dress up like joints.
There's a difference, in my humble opinion.
It's just very hard to believe this so called "marketing genius" (coined by the media), knows what she's doing, yet put a random thong in her mouth. There's shock value, and there is plain stupidity and acting like idiot for PR - she is definitely the latter![]()
