Why can't she just live her life without struggling to find a label to put on it?

Because she grew up as a lonely child star raised by crazy wanna be star rednecks? She never had an identity because her whole life has been a play act that her parents put her up to.

I'm sure there's a label for that, too.

We have a LGBTQ medical clinic as part of our hospital now, which I think is great. One of the doctors who runs it give a lot of talks about topics specific to the LGBTQ community. When she gets to her trans talks, it's overwhelming to me. She goes on and on about not being "binary" and how important it is to use pronouns like "she," "he," or even "they" for those who aren't binary. I just cannot imagine one's gender has to be so difficult that it cannot be defined. If someone really does have that much confusion about something so basic, my heart goes out to them.

I've watched my ex struggle so hard with it all for years now, 16 long years to be exact. It is painful to see and I just want him to be happy. Whatever it takes.

I'm confused. She isn't identifying with either gender hence the "genderqueer" label? We need a whole new word for all the various gender identities. Seriously. On forms these days it's "other" but that's too vague.

Ok, so why doesn't she just say that? Why invent a term?

eta: Chloroform - because a lot of people can't pronounce androgynous?

i think androgynous applies to how you look. but not what gender you identify with. and i think miley is talking (or trying to talk) about the latter.

The definition mentions both "characteristics" and "nature", though.

    Another definition of androgynous:

adjective1.being both male and female; hermaphroditic.

2.having both masculine and feminine characteristics.

    3.having an ambiguous sexual identity.

4.neither clearly masculine nor clearly feminine in appearance:the androgynous look of many rock stars.

5.Botany. having staminate and pistillate flowers in the sameinflorescence.

But not all genderqueer identify as androgynous and vice versa

The recently coined word genderqueer is often used to refer to androgyny, but the terms "genderqueer" and "androgyny" (or "androgynous") are neither equivalent nor interchangeable. "Genderqueer" is not specific to androgynes. It does not denote gender identity and may refer to any person, cisgender ortransgender, whose behavior falls outside conventional gender norms. Furthermore, "genderqueer", by virtue of its ties with queer culture, carries sociopolitical connotations that androgyny does not carry. For these reasons, some androgynes may find the label "genderqueer" inaccurate, inapplicable, or offensive. "Androgneity" is a viable alternative to "androgyny" for differentiating internal (psychological) factors from external (visual) factors.[9]

I guess I'm just going to have to buy a book because I can't keep up with all these terms. However, why put a label on any of it? Screw who you want to screw. Think of yourself any way you'd like.

Thanks WCG. I was thinking it was a descriptor term of something she totally made up.
