I think i wrote about it before, but when i landed at SF airport all these decades back ,first thing i saw was a big placard saying..NEVER GET SICK IN AMERICA...
We half daydreamed/half considered maybe making a fresh start in another country and as much as my other half likes America and has good US contacts we discounted the States straight away. With all his health conditions the health care/insurance situation would have been terrifying.

I saw a blind from enty that said this was from a bad reaction to hormones. I hope so. He is starting to look like an old lunch lady.

Yes I am. And I hope he is.

Come on. You don't want to see him in a dress?

That's what happens when you require everyone in a country to carry something - there's no more competition. Thus they can charge as much as they want and provide the minimum mandated service.

^so you'd prefer people have nothing then everyone else gets stuck paying for their medical bills? And people still have some measure of choice when deciding which insurance to buy. Insurance companies will always look for ways to not spend money on you, so the charge whatever they want and provide minimum service is nothing new.

No, it's what happens when you allow the private sector to run something that shouldn't be market-based (unless you're cool with letting poor people die and others lose everything they've worked and saved for because they happened to get cancer and their next door neighbor didn't).

Wrong. It was up to each state to get carriers on board, and to compete. States also have Insurance Commissions that oversee rates.

We were already paying for everybody else before. Now we just pay more for our own insurance and STILL have to cover everyone who can't afford their deductibles.
