I read elsewhere that when the story broke she turned on motherhood and told the press that she wouldn't do an interview but that she'd be with Maddox somewhere if they wanted to take pictures. It all seems so long ago and the press just keeps going and going.
I wonder if she'd been unattractive or been like a Monica Lewinsky type would she have been written about differently.

Of course it would have been different. The press loves narratives based on stereotypes and when they have picked a narrative for a particular celeb or politician they usually stick to it regarless of the facts, changing circumstances, or subtle nuances. It is for this reason George Bush was the "Stalwart Cowboy" for so long.
It is a tribute to Angie's savvy that she was able to turn her Wild Child narrative into Holy Jolie at the very same time she was wrecking a marriage. She is and was so beautiful that it was an easy transition for the press, who were eager to get a piece of her. It is clear they were concerned about ACCESS to her which would have been severely and understandably limited if the "Femme Fatale Homewrecker" narrative had taken hold.

I think Brad's PR flack deserves a lot of credit, too. In the early stages of their relationship, Brad and Angie were always pictured with their kids as a family ... never touching in public or spotted alone as a romantic couple. Brad's publicist shifted the focus from an adulterous relationship to a happy family, which is a lot harder for people to hate.

I remember them being all over each other on the red carpet back
then. His hand always almost on her ass, or her clinging to his arm like
he might get away. Once they came out, they were out!

Russ never did get branded a homewrecker. It was all Megs fault in the media and she suffered all of the consequences. I love Russ but this was unfair. It's the same with the Holy Triangle: either Jen is such a sandy vagged frigid bitch who refused to do her duty and procreate for Brad, or Angie is the Femme Fatale homewrecker. Brad is left out of the equation. It's never the mans' fault.

This has been going on since Hollywood first came into existence. I find it hilarious that the media is acting like they're shocked and that it's something new. Give me a break.

They are not shocked and it is not something new. It is, however, quite interesting they've singled out Angie and exposed her for something they all do. It's reminds me of a couple of years ago when several negative articles came out about Angie in mainstream publications ( including NYT, whose article tore her apart on several fronts, and Chicago Tribune which reported on her screeching fit when Brad's mom visited JA) shortly after a spate of stories about Angie not liking George Clooney.

IMO, all celebs try to make deals like this. The difference in this particular case is this:
Shifting the focus is one of Ms. Jolie’s best maneuvers, magazine editors and publicity executives say. When she became romantically involved with Mr. Pitt, for instance, she faced a public relations crisis — being portrayed in the tabloid press as a predator who stole Mr. Pitt from his wife, Jennifer Aniston.
This time, it was Ms. Jolie’s charity work that helped turn the story. Long interested in international humanitarian work, Ms. Jolie appeared in Pakistan, where she visited camps housing Afghan refugees, and even met with President Pervez Musharraf. Ms. Jolie and Mr. Pitt made a subsequent trip to Kashmir to bring attention to earthquake victims.
“Presto, they come out looking like serious people who have transformed a silly press obsession into a sincere attempt to help the needy,” said Michael Levine, a celebrity publicist and author.
Her taking advatange of people in need in order not to look like a homewrecking whore? Not cool. She's a nasty bitch. End of story.

and whose fault is that? who is it that spends the most time judging women and calling them homewrecking whores and sluts while never saying a word about the man, or only as an afterthought? other women.
i may laugh at the vein jokes and the chin and sandy vag jokes but i've always maintained that you can't steal someone that doesn't go willingly and that life is more complicated than 'thou shall not cheat' but for some people it really is that black and white and you're either the innocent, wronged victim or the man-stealing whore. it's so boring.
