LOS ANGELES — When Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt negotiated with People and other celebrity magazines this summer for photos of their newborn twins and an interview, the stars were seeking more than the estimated $14 million they received from the deal. They also wanted a hefty slice of journalistic input — a promise that the winning magazine’s coverage would be positive, not merely in that instance but into the future.
According to the deal offered by Ms. Jolie, the winning magazine was obliged to offer coverage that would not reflect negatively on her or her family, according to two people with knowledge of the bidding who were granted anonymity because the talks were confidential. The deal also asked for an “editorial plan” providing a road map of the layout, these people say.
The winner was People. The resulting package in its Aug. 18 issue — the magazine’s best-selling in seven years — was a publicity coup for Ms. Jolie, the Oscar winner and former Hollywood eccentric who wore a necklace ornamented with dried blood and talked about her fondness for knives before transforming herself into a philanthropist, United Nations good-will ambassador and devoted mother of six ...

and because she did a deal with People the other mags said "foul, you are hurting our business!" "until you share we will make sure your on the front of our magazines every week" And thus you have InStyle, OK, USweekly, InTouch all printing anything they can about the trio.
The media can make your career or break your career. I think a lot of celebrities are trying to take control over whats being printed about them.

Does it not imply that anyone who does not agreed must therefore be a loonie?

Err, NYT obviously is not going to enter into any PR contracts with celebrities. The article is talking about her "arrangements" with the entertainment press, something probably 90% of stars have-but the rest of them are not getting outed in the NYT.

It is interesting that the media called her out on it. Considering Cruise, J-Lo, Madonna, Spears, Biel, etc.... are all guilty of the same thing. I do wonder why the chose her...

They helped build her up and now they will tear her down.

Omg, those fuckers got her good.
Seriously, what person wants to read something bad about themselves or their family? I say if she's got the full to get it done, do it.
I know the stuff I have read about my brother (he's a Sheriff) pisses me off from time to time. I would stop it if I could, too.

This is a topic about brad and angelina manipulative ways so lets discuss that , why dont we have the aniston bashing for her own thread/topic or when her own manipulative ways are revealed.

Puts on flame resistant suit
I agree with Junebug on some of this (though I love Lax and realize we don't have any true Brangeloonies here). Anytime someone defends Angie, Jenni has to get dragged in to it. It's sort of like "Well, Angie may not be perfect but at least she doesn't suck as bad as Jenni." It's sort of 12 year old thinking. Then again, 1/3 of my 6000 and some posts have been wasted on these three. So apparently I have 12 year old thinking too. What was I getting at? Carry on.

Actually, they did get her good. They sparked the very flames she has tried so hard to dampen with her "arrangements"-that of her being a manipulative conniver who would do anything to get what she wants. The article comes right out and says she used her humanitarian missions to divert attention from her part in the break-up of Brad's marriage. How is the reader to take her humanitarianism seriously after that? How will she maintain the saintly image gained through her good works if it becomes widely perceived as a PR ploy to polish her reputation?

I can even summons the energy or the want to read this crap anymore.
It's not even fun anymore.

The most damaging part of the NYT article is when they question the Brangelina declaration that the tabloids payements go toward charities...they give the figure legally declared, their donation manager adds that a few millions are in de wings for other projects and it still doesn't add up

Awww back at ya!
For the record guys, I'm addicted to making Chinny jokes! Whenever possible I will try to throw in some reference to her mountainous jaw (I believe that is why I admire Grimm so much!)
Let's be honest with ourselves, GR wouldn't be what it is without these three! We love it!

See Bella - this is exactly why I love you. You make me laugh. I would venture a guess that on almost every post about Angelina, someone brings up Jenn just to stir the shit because they get tired of seeing all the hate on Angelina. The funniest part is that most who bring Jenn into don't even really care about Angelina. They are jsut trying to make a point about the Angelina bashing. I laugh because you see people post that everyone hates Angelina and it's not fair. Then someone posts that everyone hates Jenn and it's not fair. I would say there are probally 25 here who hate Angelina, 25% who hate Jenn and 50% who don't like either of them.

Gah, Brangelina threads are starting to make my head spin. They all need to go away for awhile.
Yet...WHY is it that the three of them get so much attention? What IS it about the trio that gets people talking? It's disturbingly fascinating.

Now that the NYT posted this bit, it'll be interesting to see if it comes up in other non-US magazines that haven't signed a contract with the Jolies.

Insert obligatory anguished cry of "HuuuVAAAAAAAAAAANNN-UH!!! HUVANE did it!!!!!!11" here.
I thought brangeloonies were just an established subspecies of the genus fantard? No big news there. They seem to be dying out in droves recently, but a few hardier specimens are still surviving in longtime habitats like JJ's, etc. We may even have one or two hiding out here, emerging into the light only to fire off a few defensive retorts before returning to their burrows. A dire shortage of positive Brangelina news has caused this overall diminishing of the population numbers, but I'm sure they'll reestablish themselves easily in even the most inhospitable climates should Angie win another Oscar, or if a Brangelina wedding takes place.
