While I do think Madonna is a ridiculous narcissist, she's definitely better than a Malawian orphanage. And who knows, maybe she'll mellow a little in her old age. The stuff with Rocco was only a back and forth about custody with some pot thrown in right? Could be worse.

as an aside, some friends of ours adopted a russian toddler >15 years ago. as part of the adoption process, they had to go to the orphanage, hours away from any urban area, and stay in the town of the orphanage and visit the orphanage daily for ~2 weeks. they told me of the horrors there - inadequate food, the place was unclean and the children were not bathed. no books or toys, no music, no stimulation. kids just sat around, doing nothing. there wasn't enough staff, maybe 1-2 workers for every 50 kids.

i imagine that a place like malawi might even have worse conditions. surely life with madonna is better than that?
Yes, I agree. My friend adopted from China and Kazakhstan and had to stay in town for several weeks visiting the child before they could take each one home. Orphanages aren't homes. My issue with Madonna is her process, I guarantee there are hundreds of other loving parents who are trying to adopt all over the world and have to follow the proper channels, spend thousands of dollars, not hit the ceiling in adoption parent age and its my assumption Madonna just walks in and gets what she wants and she's late 50's??? I could be totally wrong, but......

Not even to mention that Malawi is near the top of the list for countries with little access to clean drinking water. 30k+ annual deaths from dirty water.

Not all countries have an upper adoption age, some just require you to be fit and healthy.

These kids will be waaay better off with Madonna/ her staff.

These twins have been in an orphanage the last two years and you're trying to say they're better off there than with a rich as hell but narcissistic mother? Not buying any of that.
Maybe from a material standpoint, but she will fuck with their heads.

if you define 'material' as adequate nutrition, then definitely. at least they won't die at age 30 from malnutrition or curable diseases. *shrugs*

I have mixed feelings about this. Not sure Madonna suffers from a lack for photo opps or attention unless this is some sort of effort to recover from her issues with her son's custody battle and the extreme-ism during the Women's March. Seems like she has enough on her hands with her existing family.

My answer was 'yes' because of course their life circumstances will improve tremendously, but 'no' because she showed how she handles motherhood when Rocco decided to stay with his dad and especially how she 'forgot' her adopted kids in some of her tweets suggests she is not the most caring mother.

BUt yes of course these kids will be way better off having at least the basics in life and so much more. I just hopes she also gives them love.

I hate Madonna with a passion, but I'd have no issue with her adopting me. I'm 46.

I agree. It's not going to stop her touring for years on end and thinking up some other stunts to stay in the public eye. Yes, I guess the kids will be better off but it's not as if Madge will be raising them.

Madonna’s private jet: Twin sisters from Malawi begin their new life after the ‘overjoyed’ star adopts them - but not before judge asked 'uncomfortable questions' about star's plans for the girls

    • Madonna adopted four-year-old twins Esther and Stella from Mchinji, Malawi
    • She posted a picture of the two girls on her Instagram account six months ago
    • Today she shared another snap with them as she confirmed their adoption
    • MailOnline has learned Madonna began adoption bid at least two years ago
    • 58-year-old hugged and kissed her daughters as judge ruled on adoption
    • Official guardian told MailOnline 'The girls are very happy and very excited'

Madonna adopted four-year-old twins Esther and Stella from Mchinji, Malawi
Madonna jetted out of Malawi tonight with her adopted twin daughters to start a new life - as she confirmed she was 'overjoyed' to welcome the girls into her family.
Under the cover of darkness, Madonna and her new daughters boarded a private jet less than 36 hours after a judge ruled she could adopt the twins.
But it wasn't without difficulty, as papers from the court case reveal the pop star was asked 'uncomfortable questions' about her reasons for further adoption from the south African country.
Sharing a picture on Instagram as she walked hand-in-hand with the two girls, she said she was grateful to those who made the process possible.
Madonna wrote: 'I can officially confirm I have completed the process of adopting twin sisters from Malawi and am overjoyed that they are now part of our family.
'I am deeply grateful to all those in Malawi who helped make this possible and I ask the media please to respect our privacy during this transitional time.

    MADONNA’S SIX CHILDREN

    • Lourdes, 20, her daughter with Cuban actor Carlos Leon. Known for work on 'I'm Going to tell you a Secret', a documentary about Madonna.
    • Rocco Ritchie, 16, her son from her marriage to director Guy Ritchie. Madonna has a strained relationship with her son and he now lives with his father in London. He has publicly stated he is glad he doesn't live with her.
    • David Banda, 11, adopted from Malawi in 2006, when she was still married to Guy Ritchie. The pop star was accused of breaking adoption rules because she hadn't lived in Malawi beforehand. She was criticised for getting 'special treatment' due to her celebrity status.
    • Mercy James, 10, adopted from Malawi in 2009. The singer's application was initially rejected, again, because she had not lived in Malawi. She was eventually granted permission after donating £12m to the state.
    • Stella and Esther, aged four, adopted today from Malawi.

Madonna posted this image of her daughter Lourdes with twins Stella and Esther to her 8.7million Instagram followers during a visit to the Home of Hope orphanage in Malawi last year

BACKLASH OVER STAR 'BENDING THE RULES'

Malawian laws say only residents can adopt children in the impoverished southern African country.
But judiciary spokesperson Mlenga Mvula said the judge hearing the adoption case found that Madonna would look after the children well even though she is not resident
Ken Mhango, local head of the African network for protection and prevention of child abuse and neglect (ANPPCAN), criticised the secrecy and tight security around Madonna's case.
Two weeks ago Madonna flatly denied being involved in any fresh adoption application in Malawi.
At her two appearances at court, she was escorted by security guards and police.
'Madonna is portraying Malawi as having a pool of poor children on the market for adoption,' Mhango added.

If she's so into adoption why doesn't she, with her vast wealth, fund the people who want to adopt children from anywhere but simply can't afford the process? From what I know from friends in their late 30s who adopted from Russia, just the cost in travel and fees is out of the scope of many people.
