(ahem...Mick Jagger) The parent/child roles were already blurred, and he treated her more like a peer/companion than a daughter. Her mother (John's first wife) was an alcoholic so who knows where she was during that time. Not taking care of her daughter, that's for sure.

Mackenzie says that the first time they had sex, she woke up from a blackout while it was happening. It was the night before she was getting married. I don't think that's a coincidence. He wasn't going to give her up to another man. Yep, that's about as fucked up as it gets.

Re Michelle Phillips, it was all about her and the legacy of Mamas & Papas. His 3rd wife, Genevieve Waite also denies it happened. Well, she was married to him at the time of the incest so and (like Michelle) who wants to admit they were married to that? She was a junkie too, right along with John.

I think Chynna Phillips is the only one who acknowledged that Mackenzie told her years ago and she believed her (?) Bijou Phillips, the other half-sister said she told her too, but she doesn't believe it. She's a Co$, now married to Danny Masterson. So she believes a fake religion, but not her sister. Go figure.

    I believe Mackenzie.

Oh yes and because he was her FATHER and she was barely an adult (and a very troubled one at that) when the incest started. Some people view their children as extensions of themselves and therefore their own property to do with as they please. I don't believe she was capable of saying no even if her father didn't rape. THAT'S why it went on for 10 years.

I have a friend who is freaking 33 years old and she still desperately wants/needs her mother's approval. If she disapproves of a decision my friend makes, the mother gives her the silent treatment for months until my friend caves and begs forgiveness for daring to make her own decision.
Thanks for this, I've had trouble articulating a good explanation to some sick trends I've seen. Evidently, over the past few years, there's been an increase in popularity for incest-leaning porn? I say "leaning" because the premise is something like dad bangs their teen stepdaughter, or teen daughter's friend who is the same age and looks like the daughter... Or two men have sex with the other's daughter. So that the direct father-daughter relationship is only barely technically removed.

I couldn't believe I had to explain why that would always be an unequal power dynamic between ANY parental figure and child of whatever age, and as such, totally sick, unhealthy and destructive. The producers don't see the problem at all. It's just another premise that's made-up, and therefore they think has no *real* bad consequence. I think they're normalizing and encouraging situations like Mackenzie's.

Incest is so damaging, but they don't see it as incest because of the step- and friend-of-daughter technicality, the actors aren't *really* related, so they think there's no problem. It's just another niche that makes them good money. All that to say: plenty of people don't understand how this works, how damaging it is and they are pretty unsympathetic.

I guess I didn't realize Michelle Phillips has been so horrible to Mackenzie over this. Sort of surprises me because she LOATHED John ultimately, and this obviously makes him look real, REAL bad.
But then, maybe she hates him so much that she hates everyone related to him by extension (or yeah maybe the protecting the band's legacy thing)? I don't know, it's so irrational in the bigger picture of life. What a jackass.

Ugh, I had not known this. Absolutely horrible. He marked her as his property before he "gave her away". That's a whole new dimension of fucked up.

I believe that Michelle Phillips was afraid that Mackenzie's revelation would hurt sales of John songs which she still was receiving royalties from. (she definitely was receiving royalties from California Dreaming at the very least) Financial greed ruins people sometimes.

Bijou hinted at her father molesting her before Mackenzie's allegations. I looked up the creepy song she wrote and found these quotes about it from an interview:

BRUCE: Tell me about the new song you wrote — the one you were singing in the car on the way back from lunch.BIJOU: The one about my dad? It sort of speaks for itself. I’ve made this decision not to talk to the press about anything that’s gone on in my life, but just to write music about it. They can interpret it themselves.
BRUCE: There seemed to be some improprieties going on. You’re talking about stuff in your music that’s pretty heavy. Has anyone articulated it for you in the press?
BIJOU: No one has the balls to do it.
    BRUCE: I’ll do it.
    BIJOU: [laughs] It’s blatantly obvious.
BRUCE: The refrain in your new song is: “He touched me wrong.” How much more blatant can you get?
BIJOU: I really want his balls busted, but I also want to be able to say, “It’s just a song.”
BRUCE: It’s not just a song.
    BIJOU: It’s just a song.
    The lyrics in question:

    "In the silent parlor room
    If I'd remember to
Keep it down for ya, like you asked me to
    Did that hurt too much

Baby did it last long enough
    It was fine for me
    It was fine for me
    I'll go dry off now

    This stuff is sticky
It's a little hot in here dear
Can you turn up the air
And don't tell me that you want me to see you this way

    If I were weaker
    And you loved me
Would you still act this way
    I'm sitting on the floor

And I don't feel no more
    I'm not prepared to
    And I don't dare to
    It's so dark in here

    And something smells like fear
    Now you're sleeping
    While I'm conceiving
I'll find my own way out

    You'll find the letter
    I'm a little weak but
    You like that better
I don't think that you want to

    See me this way
    'Cause I'd kill you
    And I'd leave you
    And never speak your name

And don't tell me that you want me to see you this way
    If I were weaker
    And you loved me
Would you still act this way

    The roads are wet
And I can't remember your face
As I'm driving away in this, in this taxi cab
    And the driver said

Are you sure you want to leave him
Don't I need to get these scars off my face
And I'm bleeding, not just in front of you
    But in every single place

Don't you think that I want to see him in a different way
    If he were weaker
    And I still loved him
Maybe it wouldn't be this way"

^ Wow. What I read was, she said Mackenzie told her when she was 13, it totally fucked up her teen years, and that she didn't believe it. Those lyrics tell a different story, especially since she acknowledged they're about her father.

I think Mackenzie was just trying to warn her sisters, and good on her for that.

Plus Mackenzie was raped when she was younger too, wasn't she? Picked up in some car to score drugs and booze or something, and the guy, an adult sped off while she was in the car and raped her!! She mentioned this on E! THS. Of course her view of herself would be warped enough to think nothing of having sex with her dad. She was sexualized, traumatically so, at an early age.

And now we have a "president" who openly pervs on his daughter.

My husband got a call one day to go pick up a man for questioning who had allegedly raped and sodomized his 6 year old daughter according to the mother, who had taken the injured child and fled. The daughter came home from an outing with her dad complaining that her bottom hurt and she couldn't tee tee. My husband called me on the way over there and told me to pray for him because he honestly wasn't sure what he would do when he arrived at the house.
When he arrived at the house, he discovered that the man had committed suicide prior to his arrival. That's not at all what I was praying for, but hey, sometimes things just work out.
The hubs informed his supervisor to remove him from juvenile crimes division or accept his resignation. That man's evil actions were the final straw for him.

^Wow. Shame the guy took the easy way out and killed himself. People like that deserve torture and not the cowardly way.

By the way, thanks to your husband for serving your community, and to you for supporting him.

Thank you, but I'm not very supportive. I'm on him every day to retire. He's actually one of the good ones, and the shit and injustice he sees every day wears on him.

On another note, I read somewhere that the occupation with the highest divorce rate is pilots. Number two is police officers. Guess between us it's a miracle we've made it this long
