Lindsay Lohan hospitalized after car crash

Lindsay was driving the car, and we're told she's saying that the accident wasn't her fault, claiming the 18 wheeler cut her off.

Probably more like she was following too close, went to pass the truck, it slowed down and she slammed into the back of his right side. Nothing is ever this trick's fault in her own mind.

Released from Hospital

Lindsay Lohan has been released from the hospital after totaling her car this afternoon in L.A.

A rep for Lindsay tells us, the actress was on her way to the "Liz & Dick" set when she plowed a rented Porsche into the back of an 18-wheeler -- smashing the car to pieces.

The rep says Lindsay was brought in to Santa Monica UCLA hospital as a precaution -- she had no serious injuries ... neither did Lindsay's assistant.

We're told Lindsay is fine and is now on her way back to the set ... in the back of an SUV.

18-wheelers can't just zip into another lane like tiny cars do. It would have taken some time to merge over. Truck drivers usually change lanes while maintaining the vehicle and trailer in as straight as line as possible. And if the truck driver swerved, that would have created an angle--the front of the truck would have been going left first and the trailer would pivot and join that lane later. Either way, there would be a moment for the car driver to react (unless they weren't sober, and their reaction times were delayed). Even if that were the case, her car would have been pulled apart rather than crunched up.

Did she not have a good distance between her car and the 18-wheeler? One of the basics I learned as a young driver was to never get too close to large vehicles in the rear and to ALWAYS be extra careful around such vehicles.
