Most of these child stars emerge with no life skills whatsoever. She's utterly vulnerable to shark/parasites and God know, a lot of losers have come out of the woodworks already. Part of me feels sorry for her because she's obviously an idiot, but she makes sympathy very hard to sustain.

The family is getting extremely poor psychiatric/psychologicl advice - if they're seeking it at all. Letting a mentally ill person hit rock bottom is not something that works, and it's certainly not advisable. Who knows what they're doing. They've rarely spoken out about their position, and it does appear that they've tried to help her in various ways now that the multi-headed monster is in full-blown manifestation. This situation is beyond "tough love."

It seems they think letting her hit rock bottom will "wake her up" and "make her want to fix her life." So not only did they show poor judgment by using her/allowing her to be used to manufacture a pop star in the first place, now they're probably (1) hoping it works, or (2) resigned to her being committed to an instution and/or prison, or (3) resigned to the probability of her death.

^^ agree with the two last posts. There is a difference between an addict and an addict/substance abuser with serious mental health problems and someone needs to get her ass probated into a psych unit.

It's really sad that nothing can be done legally to force her to get true help. I don't know about other states, but in California the situation's been deplorable for at least a couple of decades. Someone should have petitioned for a conservatorship if she's this far gone.

to be honest, it wouldn't really be a great loss if she died. she's a crap singer, a crap mother, she's stupid, crazy, lazy and unpleasant. what pisses me off is when the talented ones die. but it seems the talentless losers hang around til they're 80.

C'mon, it ISN'T HER FAULT REMEMBER? You cannot help someone that doesn't want to be helped, and she clearly doesn't want to be at the moment. So, what is her family suppose to do? She is going to have to come to them, and tell them that she needs the help..but clearly she is still in denial, and it is not their duty to push her into getting help. It is hers, it is something she has to do herself, and not anything ANYONE else can ever do for her. I have zero tolerance for alocholics, drug users, since I have had PLENTY of family members who have abused both. Those people constantly hurt their family, and refused to get help, after a while, people like that do not necessarily deserve to be forgiven. There is only so much damage that she should be allowed to do to her family. If they shut her out, I don't blame them, HOW IS IT fair for them too be punished and hurt over and over by her?

It certainly is time for her to stop punishing them for her past. They all have to wipe the slate clean and start over, with lessons learned and hopefully not repeated. Unfortunately, there will always be the carrot to mold her into a money-making machine again - this time as a comeback kid. Hell, that may be the entire plan.
