What's so shocking?
Oh and lets not forget how he treated women:
Women, too, are there: two before one fight, five before another. "Our women should be honoured," Ali said during his years away from boxing, "but they should understand their inferiority. Man gotta look down on women and women up to men whether they standing up or laying down. I don't take any sass."
Yeah, that's a man of great honor and should deserve a lot of respect.
Sweetie....lay off the turps
Draft dodging is soo 1973......
Soth, lay of Sweetie. If you read most post my issue isn't the draft dodging it's his whole attitude. He was a dick.
Thanks!
Good god. You really believe every quote you read, that backs
up your vision of him?
I know people who have known him for years, two even for
decades, and you could not be more wrong. At best, the
quote you used is taken out of context or even hashed
up various quotes that are pasted together.
Nobody is a saint, so Muhammad isn't either. But he is not
at all as you describe him to be.
Even more stunned.

I have watched MANY an Ali interview, my opinion is based 100% on his own words, coming out of his own mouth.
^ Yeah, I agree, he wasn't very intelligent. If I heard him say "ain't" one time I heard him say it a million.
I wish I could agree about the fighting though.....I just think I hate him so much as a person that I can see the good in his fighting.

There's a huge difference between dodging the draft and outright refusing to go to war. Dodging the draft means that you go off and hide, or join the National Guard, to avoid punishment. Ali got locked up and had his titles stripped from him because he refused to go to war, and he took that punishment.
And if Ali is such a racist then why do so many people, of all colors, admire him so much? And he wasn't a lazy boxer, he allowed other boxers to tire themselves out and he took advantage of it, just like the majority of boxers do. And a lot of boxers modeled their style of fighting after Ali.
Agree with you on BOTH points.
My father's got a picture that Ali autographed for him back in the 60's, and I plan to get that picture one day.

It is not unfathomable that this man, in his era and being Muslim, held some extremely sexist views. Yes, I said Muslim, because in general I think that there is a very oppressive attitude towards women amongst many followers and Muslim theocracies have horrible human rights violations especially against women.
But, sexism gets excused as being part of 'culture'.
I know what dodging the draft is....it's refusing to go, which he did.
And I couldn't tell you why so many people respect him, I am not 'so many other people'; I can tell you why I don't respect him and that's because he was an ignorant man that belittled everyone that wasn't of his religion or a black man.
You like him, I don't and your points will not change my mind. I have watched many show on Ali in hopes of liking him, but they always make me dislike him even more.
Oh and I don't care for boxers that lay around, I am more about being able to come out guns a blazing. To me he was lazy.
Good, glad we agree.
Ali was not a "lazy" boxer. His "dope-on-a-rope" strategy is just that--a strategy. If you come out guns a blazin' you will quickly wear yourself out and be KOd. He was an excellent athlete who could also gauge his opponents strengths and weaknesses very well.
Anyway, this thread is about his daughter. She is beautiful and looks very happy.
