And the statement goes on, “Mr. Sterling is emphatic that what is reflected on that recording is not consistent with, nor does it reflect his views, beliefs or feelings. It is the antithesis of who he is, what he believes and how he has lived his life.”

The people on his team are employees, so he gets to exploit them for money. He's a vile piece of shit.
This was a problem WAY before World War II. We know it occurred during slavery, and in relationships between white settlers and Native women.

It's sick but not uncommon. My paternal grandma was raped by her white employer over and over again starting when she was a young teenager. My great grandma had my grandma at 15. He (I refuse to acknowledge him as my great-grandfather) was a crazy racist fuck, but he clearly had no problem sexually abusing my black great-grandma and making a mixed baby with her. And we know it almost certainly happened before my great-grandma too, because even though she self-identified as black, she was described as a "redbone" with mixed features.

This issue is partly why so many black American people have racially mixed ancestry. On both sides of my family, my grandparents, great-grandparents, etc. were multiracial and they were born when "miscegenation" was very, very illegal.

The estranged with of embattled Clippers owner Donald Sterling described her husband’s much younger girlfriend in a multimillion-dollar lawsuit as a gold-digger who seduces and cajoles wealthy older men into showering her with presents.

Sterling’s girlfriend Vanessa Stiviano, 38, sparked a firestorm on Saturday by allegedly leaking an audio recording of the 81-year-old Clippers owner launching a racist rant in which he berated her for being seen in public with black friends, including Magic Johnson.

The shocking clip set off a massive scandal in the media, with current and former NBA players like LeBron James and Charles Barkley calling on the league to take immediate action against Sterling. The NBA is investigating the claims and is set to make a decision within days.

In the meantime, a lawsuit filed by Sterling’s estranged wife of 50 years Rochelle claims to show how the Clipper’s owner treated his girlfriend before the apparent row – by lavishing her with a series of gifts including a Ferrari, two Bentleys, a Range Rover and a $1.4million apartment.

Woman scorned: Donald Sterling's wife of 50 years, Rochelle (pictured), filed a lawsuit in March against his girlfriend, Vanessa Stiviano, accusing her of using her feminine wiles to get her hands on their family money

Man-eater: Vanessa Stiviano has been described by her rival as a calculating gold-digger

Clowning around: Stiviano posed last April in a red bikini and a clown nose sitting in a Ferrari that Sterling allegedly bought for her with family money

Life in the fast lane: According to Rochelle Sterling's lawsuit, besides the flashy 2012 Ferrari, her husband gifted Stiviano two Bentleys and a Range Rover

Heartbreaker: The vanity plate on Stiviano's red Ferrari reads: 'V Loves You'

In court documents filed March 7 by Sterling's spouse of 50 years and the mother of his three children, Rochelle Sterling writes that her husband and Stiviano - who also goes by the aliases Vanessa Maria Perez, Monica Gallegos, Maria Monica Perez Gallegos and Maria Valdez – first met in 2010 at the Super Bowl.
According to Mrs Sterling's lawsuit, cited by the Los Angles Times, over the past four years, her husband used their commonly owned resources to buy his girlfriend a 2012 Ferrari, a pair of Bentleys and a 2013 Range Rover worth a total of more than $500,000.
In additional to the high-end vehicles, some of which are prominently featured on Stiviano's instagram account documenting her high-flying lifestyle, Mr Sterling also gifted her $1.8million to buy a duplex on West 4th Street in Los Angeles and $240,000 for living expenses.
Mrs Sterling's lawsuit, which claims that her husband gave Stiviano money and presents without her consent, seeks full restitution along with unspecified compensatory damages.

Irresistible: Rochelle Sterling's complaint accused Stiviano of seducing and cajoling older wealthy men into showering her with gifts

High maintenance: The 38-year-old beauty allegedly received $240,000 from her elderly boyfriend to cover her living expenses

Counterattack: Stiviano's lawyer hit back at Rochelle Sterling, mocking the claim that his client could have used her wiles to bilk the famously shrewd businessman out of millions of dollars

What's in a name: The woman known to the realm of social media as V. Stiviano has no fewer than five aliases, including Vanessa Maria Perez and Monica Gallegos

According to Rochelle Sterling, before she filed her complaint in court, Donald Sterling himself had asked Stiviano to return the money and property, but the woman allegedly refused.
Stiviano's attorney, Mac Nehoray, presented a counter-argument, claiming that a gift cannot be revoked by the giver – legalese for ‘no taksies backsies.’
In a court filing, the lawyer also insisted that there is not ‘a peppercorn of a fact’ that his client committed any fraud or exercised undue influence.
Nehoray added that nowhere in Mrs Sterling’s lawsuit does it say that ‘the feminine wiles of Ms. Stiviano overpowered the iron will of’ Donald Sterling, ‘who is well known as one of the most shrewd businessmen in the world.’
All throughout the day Saturday, anger has been was building against the elderly billionaire over his remarks pertaining to minorities.
LeBron James called Sterling's comments ‘appalling’ and said he's not sure he would suit up if he was on his team.
‘There's no room for Donald Sterling in the NBA - there is no room for him,’ the Heat forward said Saturday night before a playoff game against the Charlotte Bobcats.

NBA backlash: Heat forward Lebron James (left) spoke out about Donald Sterling's shocking audio recording, saying that there is no room in the league for the LA Clippers owner (right)

Out for blood: James called on NBA Commissioner Adam Silver to take 'swift action' if the tape proves to be legitimate and 'take a stand' on the issue

The league said Saturday it was investigating the recording posted on TMZ's website, calling the remarks made by Sterling to his girlfriend ‘disturbing and offensive.’
James said NBA Commissioner Adam Silver should take swift action if the comments are found to be made by Sterling.
‘Obviously, if the reports are true it's unacceptable in our league,’ James said. ‘It doesn't matter, white, black or Hispanic - all across the races it's unacceptable.
‘As the commissioner of our league they have to make a stand. They have to be very aggressive with it. I don't know what it will be, but we can't have that in our league.’
He added, ‘We're the model citizen of all sports around the world because we are the most recognizable figures. ... It's very disrespectful and it's appalling.’
One of James' best friends, Chris Paul, plays for the Clippers.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver addresses the media about a recording containing racist comments by the Los Angeles Clippers owner at FedExForum in Memphis, Tennessee

James said he hasn't spoken with Paul, but ‘I can only imagine what is going through his head.’
‘I have kind of wavered back and forth if I would actually sit out,’ James said. ‘If our owner would come out and say the things he said I would have to sit down with my teammates and talk to my family because at the end of the day, our family and teammates are way more important than that.

‘Basketball is huge and the playoffs have been unbelievable so far and I hate that something has to come out.’
James explained that he is not angry about the disparaging comments targeting minorities, just disappointed.
‘I can only imagine if a player came out and said something of that stature what would happen to us as players,’ James said. ‘I believe in Adam [Silver] and I believe in the NBA and they have to do something very fast before this really gets out of hand. But like I said there is no room for Donald Sterling in our league.’
Clippers coach Doc Rivers revealed today that his players discussed boycotting Game 4 of their first-round playoff series at Golden State on Sunday during a 45-minute team meeting but quickly decided against it.

It's personal: One of James' best friends, Chris Paul (pictured left and right), plays for the Clippers

‘I think the biggest statement we can make as men, not as black men, as men, is to stick together and show how strong we are as a group,’ Rivers said. ‘Not splinter. Not walk. It's easy to protest. The protest will be in our play.’
Chris Paul released a statement through the players union that said ‘this is a very serious issue which we will address aggressively.’
Other players were not made available as Rivers said he would speak for the team.
‘A lot of guys voiced their opinions. None of them were happy about it,’ Rivers said. ‘This was a situation where we're trying to go after something very important for us, something that we've all dreamed about all our childhoods. Donald or anyone else had nothing to do with that dream, and we're not going to let anything get in the way of those dreams.’
Clippers President Andy Roeser said in a statement that Sterling and the team listened to the tape but did not know if it is legitimate or has been altered.

He said the woman on the tape, identified by TMZ as V. Stiviano, ‘is the defendant in a lawsuit brought by the Sterling family alleging that she embezzled more than $1.8million, who told Mr. Sterling that she would ‘get even.’’
Mr Roeser also said the recording does not reflect Sterling's beliefs.
'It is the antithesis of who he is, what he believes and how he has lived his life,' Roeser stated. 'He feels terrible that such sentiments are being attributed to him and apologizes to anyone who might have been hurt by them.'
He added that Sterling is ‘upset and apologizes for sentiments attributed to him’ about Johnson, described as Sterling's friend for whom he has ‘the utmost respect and admiration.’
Commissioner Silver was scheduled to address reporters Saturday night in Memphis before the Grizzlies' playoff game against Oklahoma City.

Official response: Clippers President Andy Roeser said he recording does not reflect Sterling's beliefs

On TNT's halftime studio show Saturday, host Charles Barkley said ‘this is the first test of Adam Silver.’ He said Silver had to ‘suspend him and fine him immediately.’
NBA TV analyst and former player Chris Webber said that ‘the NBA owners need to handle their own.’
In Dallas, where the Spurs were getting ready to play the Mavericks, San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich said: ‘The comments are obviously disgusting.’
Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said ‘I have plenty of opinions, just not going to share them,’ fending off several inquiries before saying: ‘Obviously, if any business or entrepreneur says or does things that aren't congruent with what the organization is trying to convey, that's a problem. But it's not my problem.’
Warriors coach Mark Jackson, who played for the Clippers from 1992-94, said of Sterling's comments: ‘My feeling would be the same, no matter if I was coaching, playing or a fan. There's no place for it.’
Jacky Johnson, a spokeswoman for the Rev. Al Sharpton's National Action Network, said the organization planned a protest outside Game 5 of the Clippers-Warriors series Tuesday night in Los Angeles.
On the audio recording made public Saturday, a man believed to be Donald Sterling is heard telling off his girlfriend, who goes by V. Stiviano, that he doesn't want her bringing any black people to his team's basketball games.
'You can sleep with (black people). You can bring them in, you can do whatever you want. The little I ask you is not to promote it on that... and not to bring them to my games,' Sterling is heard saying on a tape obtained by TMZ.

Damning recording: Donald Sterling (center) can be heard telling his girlfriend V. Stiviano (to his left) not to bring black people to Clippers games

Hypocritical: Sterling told his girlfriend V. Stiviano (pictured left and right), who is Mexican and African-American, that she can sleep with black people but shouldn't bring them to Clippers games

The spat reportedly started when Stiviano, who is Mexican and African American, posted a photo of herself and Magic Johnson on her Instagram page.

'It bothers me a lot that you want to broadcast that you’re associating with black people. Do you have to?' Sterling is heard saying.

'I’m just saying, in your lousy f******* Instagrams, you don’t have to have yourself with, walking with black people.
'Don't put him (Johnson) on an Instagram for the world to have to see so they have to call me. And don't bring him to my games.'
The photo with Johnson has reportedly been taken down and Stiviano has locked it so that her Instagram feed is private.

She and Sterling, who is still legally married but has been separated from his wife Shelly for years, appear to have an open relationship.

Racist history: Clippers owner Donald Sterling who has twice been sued for refusing to rent apartments to minorities, is seen shaking hands with Reggie Evans of the Brooklyn Nets in 2013

At several points on the tape, the 81-year-old billionaire claims that he is not racist but does not understand why his girlfriend wants to publicize her relationships with people of color.

Magic Johnson, who retired from the Los Angeles Lakers in 1991 and returned for a single season in 1996, spoke out against the comments and said that he will never attend another Clippers game while Sterling is the owner.

'I feel sorry for my friends Coach Doc Rivers and Chris Paul that they have to work for a man that feels that way about African Americans,' he wrote on Twitter, citing some current Clippers players.

Sending a message: Magic Johnson said he thinks fans boycott the Clippers

'LA Clippers owner Donald Sterling's comments about African Americans are a black eye for the NBA.'
He expanded on his thoughts to TMZ, saying that he does not think the players should boycott but the fans should.

'He wants our money but doesn't want us to show up,' Johnson said.

'I thought we were friends. We've broken bread together several times. It's almost like, do you smile in my face but behind my back you talk about me? I'd have felt better in 1979 if you would have just told me you don't like African Americans, and then I would have known how to deal with you.
'He has to step down or sell the team.'
The recording has prompted calls for a boycott of the team by the NBA and fans alike- including former sports broadcaster Keith Olberman and Snoop Dogg, who posted an expletive-laced video on his Instagram account.

'A message to the motherf***** that owns the Clippers. You b****-a** redneck white-bred chickens*** motherf*****: F*** you, your momma and everyone connected to you, you racist piece of s***. F*** you,' the rapper says in an Instagram video he posted to his account Saturday morning.
The NBA has now launched an official investigation into the recording, and the league's spokesman Mike Bass called the comments 'disturbing and offensive'.

This is not the first time that Sterling has been accused of being racist.

Making a statement: Magic Johns announced that he will not be attending any future Clippers games

Big fan: Stiviano regularly attends Clippers games (pictured at an October 2013 game)

He was sued twice by the federal government after refusing to rent apartments to minorities.

In the 2005 case, he was ordered to pay a $2.73million fine to settle.

In a 2009 case, he was accused of refusing to rent to non-Koreans when it came to a property in Koreatown and refused African American tenants for a property in Beverly Hills.
He was reportedly accused of saying that he wouldn't rent to Hispanics because they 'smoke, drink and just hang around the building'.

The suit also accused Sterling of saying, 'Black tenants smell and attract vermin'.
He was also named in a 2003 lawsuit wherein he crudely described how he had sex with a prostitute who charged $500-per-tryst.
In that case, he admitted that 'maybe I morally did something wrong' but went on to explain that 'it was purely sex for money, money for sex, sex for money, money for sex,' according to records obtained by The Smoking Gun.

The conversation is allegedly between Donald Sterling and his girlfriend, who goes by the name V. Stiviano, who identifies herself as part Mexican and part African American.

VS: I wish I could change the skin. The color of my skin
DS: That isn't the issue. You've missed the issue.
    VS: What's the issue?
DS: The issue is we don't have to broadcast everything.
VS: I'm not broadcasting anything. I don't do anything wrong.

DS: Why are you taking pictures with minorities... why?

The conversation centered around a now-deleted photo that Stiviano put on Instagram of herself and Magic Johnson (pictured)

VS: What's wrong with minorities? What's wrong with black people?
    DS: Nothing, nothing, nothing.
    VS: What's wrong with Hispanics?
DS: It's like talking to an enemy. There's nothing wrong with minorities, they're fabulous. Fabulous. Because you're an enemy to me.
    VS: Why?
    DS: Because you don't understand.
    VS: I don't understand what?
    DS: Nothing, nothing.
VS: That racism still is a lie?
DS: No but there's a culture.
    VS: What culture?
DS: People feel certain things. Hispanics feel certain things towards blacks. Blacks feel certain things towards other groups. It's been that way historically and it will always be that way.
VS: But it's not that way in my heart and in my mind.
DS: But maybe you want to adjust to the world.

DS: Yea it bothers me a lot that you want to broadcast that you're associated with black people. Do you have to?
VS: You associate with black people.
DS: I'm not you and you're not me. You're supposed to be a delicate white or a delicate Latina girl.
    VS: I'm a mixed girl.
    DS: Ok well.
VS: And you're in love with me. And I'm black and Mexican. Whether you like it or not. Whether the world accepts it or not. And you're asking me to remove.... you want me to have hate towards black people?
DS: I don't want you to have hate. That's what people do- they turn things around. I want you to love them- privately. In your whole life, everyday you can be with them. Every single day of your life.
    VS: But not in public?
DS: But why publicize it on the Instagram and why bring it to my games?

Recorded: A call between Sterling and his girlfriend was released and he is heard making racist assertions

    VS: I can't believe that a man who's educated, a man who's a scholar, a man...
DS: Well believe it, and stop talking about it. Let's finish our discussion with a period, ok?

VS: I took a picture with someone I admire (Magic Johnson).
    DS: Good
VS: He happens to be black, and I'm sorry.
DS: I think the fact that you admire him- I've known him well, and he should be admired. And I'm just saying that it's too bad you can't just admire him privately, and during your entire f****** life, your whole life- admire him, bring him here, feed him, f*** him, I don't care. You can do anything. But don't put him on an Instagram for the world to have to see so they have to call me. And don't bring him to my games, OK?

I don't think there's much blindsiding, his racism has been long chronicled in sports news and courtrooms. We all have different things that motivate our actions, if hers is self-loathing for money, that's her thing.

And the fact that 80% of the NBA players are black.

I feel bad for the players on the Clippers. I'm sure they don't want to suit up and play for this guy, but not all of them are the caliber of Lebron James and make that kind of money.

Who was recording this? Because isn't CA a two party state, meaning both parties must consent to the recording or it's against the law?
