Yeah they obviously found their way past all that and seemed happy. Two of those girls were just babies. I think that last one isn't even a year old.

Vanessa got with him when she was 17 and he was 21, they were kids. That's her entire adult life with him. That's a massive loss, almost half of their family. Especially after all the shit she stuck through him with and they both seemed to grow up and be in a good place.

No, there is an older son and a younger girl. Those poor kids.

That particular Sikorsky is a 12 passenger personal helicopter, so holding 8 plus pilot plus whatever equipment was on board, and should not have been a problem unless the equipment was improperly loaded or the weight distributed unevenly.

LAPD says the conditions were not good for helicopters to fly that day, and they grounded theirs. Seems like that would be contributing factor.

^that's what i saw too. it was too foggy and that whoever makes that helicopter says there should be two pilots when this one was flying with only one.

i saw an article today said that it was going 185 MPH. i just can't imagine. it is sickening.

The only good thing about that is that it was hopefully quick and there was little time between when they knew what was happening and impact.

So tragic that 9 people, 3 of them teenage girls with their entire lives ahead of them, are dead because the pilot was overconfident in his abilities.

Heartbreaking for the families of those on board. Living a nightmare.

Below is audio and what looks like live radar of Kobe's chopper as it proceeds until it crashes. Basically a calm conversation between the tower and the chopper pilot, literally until it crashes. No signs of distress. Literally just disappears.

Or was a rich athlete accustomed to having his own way, including using helicopters as regular transportation, insistent on flying regardless of the conditions? We'll probably never know.

Several years ago I worked on a project about the history of LA architecture and learned—I may mess up or gloss over the details here—that Los Angeles at one time had an excellent public transit system, and that the area was considered ideal for mass transit because you could basically make a loop out of it. But the auto industry paid to dismantle it. Hence today’s gridlock. So I blame unregulated capitalism that allowed industry to override the public interest.

Personally, there is no way I’d want to be taxied about in a private helicopter, for this very reason, safety. I think helicopters can usually be safe, but I don’t see them as reliable daily private civilian transportation, nor do I think helicopter tours of vacation spots look very appealing.

it sucks that this happened. The families are no doubt completely devastated.

Not surprised at all. And unregulated capitalism overriding the public interest is the american way.
