Files for Divorce from Katy Perry

Russell Brand has filed for divorce from Katy Perry ... TMZ has learned.

In the docs, filed in L.A., Brand cites "irreconcilable differences." The two were married Oct. 23, 2010 in India. They have no kids.

Sources had told TMZ the couple was having problems, evidenced by the fact that they spent Christmas apart and neither was wearing a wedding ring.

Although it's not 100%, based on what we now know it appears Brand may have blindsided Perry by filing the divorce petition.

Russell appeared on "Ellen" just this month, slamming divorce rumors -- claiming, "I'm really happily married ... I’m married to Katy. Perpetually, until death do us part was the pledge. I’m still alive."

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Russell Brand and Katy Perry are getting a divorce, the British comedian told The Associated Press Friday.
"Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I'll always adore her and I know we'll remain friends," said Brand, 36, offering no other details.
He and the 27-year-old pop singer were married in October 2010 at a resort inside a tiger reserve in India.

Brand was an American unknown a few years ago who hoped to gain fans stateside by hosting the MTV Video Music Awards. Now, he's become the kind of A-list leading man who opens big-studio movies on back-to-back weekends.

This year, he played the animated heir to the Easter Bunny's throne in the family film "Hop" and took on the title role in "Arthur," a reimagining of the 1981 Dudley Moore classic. He's also writing and producing — and possibly directing — two more studio-backed comedies.

Perry's run of No. 1 singles earned her the distinction of becoming MTV's first artist of the year earlier this month. She hosted "Saturday Night Live" on Dec. 10 and gave no indication the couple was in trouble.

Um he is not A-list. Most of his movies bomb.
I've learned that the bigger and more expensive the hollywood wedding the shorter the marriage will be.

Yeah, even if they were celebrating xmas in different cities to spend time with their respective families, I still think that means problems. Don't know why they bothered to deny it or even comment at all.
