i think she's already not single, which is why they had to announce the split.

but 6 years? come on, czb, no one past the age of 37 can get pregnant using their own eggs. it's a fact.

you need to get out of scooter-ville and into the real world!

but anyhoo, the thing about kate is that she doesn't seem to get upset about the end of any relationship. i don't understand people like that. are they like that because they weren't so committed?

i know lots of serial monogamists. they basically deal with the end of a relationship while still in that relationship (meanwhile their partners have no idea they've already checked out of that relationship), and then overlap partners and leave their exes only when they have someone else lined up. so they overlap basically but yeah, i feel like they don't mourn the end of a relationship the way other people do because that would mean not being in a relationship for a while.

two friends come to mind. my best friend, who hasn't been single a day in her life since she was 17, and another friend, who's been through 3 boyfriends in 14 years (she's now married to the 3rd one), and by the time she moved out of the previous boyfriend's apartment, was already involved with the next one, and she repeated that with the next one. what's even crazier about her case is that all 3 boyfriends have essentially the same name, or a variation of it.

hey, at least that cuts down on the chance for an embarrassing verbal slip

I sorta became a serial monogamist at some point and see now it's got to do with feeling insecure, as in not feeling that I have a secure place in the world. An old feeling. But fwiw I did mourn the relationships that ended. And still think abt those men sometimes, could be gratitude, or realizing something that was shitty, whatever. I have to process stuff like anyone does.

I tend to get over relationships while still in them, but I don't move on to the next person. I usually end things because I crave independence. I'm serially single - go out with somebody for a year or so, split up, then I'm single for a good couple years before rinse and repeat. I have lots of friends who are serial monogamists though, I'm actually considered the odd duck.

There are lots of serial monogamists out there and I don't think there's necessarily anything wrong with that - it just seems weird to those of us for whom Being in a relationship isn't the default. I think it just has to do with personality types and I've also noticed that a lot of serial monogamists seem to be people who had very serious and long term relationships early on - the ones that were with their high school boyfriend/girlfriend for 4-5 years or longer. So their formative years were all spent as part of a couple so I guess that becomes their default.

Speaking of names....in my ex-husband's family his mom, stepmom, brother's ex and his ex (me) all have a variation of the same name. That should've been an omen, no?
