It's also doctor speak for stress, anxiety, panic attacks and *shock* exhaustion. Not just directed at you Yoko, but exhaustion is something that you can be diagnosed for; I was studying, working, doing a part time job and then my father died, the advice I was given is 'stop because you're exhausted', simple but true. Incidentally I've had numbness and tingling in an arm when having panic attacks. Glad that was something that only lasted a month, once I cut back on what I was doing and took time out to sit and think, I stopped having the attacks.

Speaking from a cardiology viewpoint, the red flag is not with smoking but with the fact that her father had died of a myocardidal infarction at age 31. Most people with MIs at that early of an age had them not due to blocked arteries, but as a result of undiagnosed congenital heart disease, or CHD. CHD rarely go undiagnosed but when it does, sometimes the first symptom is death, unfortunately. That was what happend to the late Joe Strummer of The Clash. Also, CHD sometimes run in families. Kate would be wise to give up her ciggies nonetheless, given her family history.
Left-sided weakness and tingling can mean many things. It could be a pinched nerve and it could be something more serious like the aforementioned cardiac or neuro-related issues. Sharon Stone had a hemorrhagic stroke and stayed at our hospital as a VIP, I heard we went out of our way for her. Kate is probably getting the whole work-up and treatment right now wherever she's staying.

Found this extract from Access Hollywood -
Quote:
The British beauty went to the hospital on Sunday afternoon after experiencing numbness in her left arm and left leg, a source revealed to Access.
The source said the actress was concerned after experiencing the numbness for a couple of days. However, she was reportedly not in any pain.
Doctors treated Beckinsale and determined the problem was due to exhaustion and that she hadn’t been compliant with her regular medication, the source added.
When contacted by Access, a rep for Beckinsale said the reason the actress had gone to the hospital was to accompany her assistant who sprained her ankle.
|
Ok i am slightly dim at stuff like this but does that mean that faliure to take her medicine may have caused the numbness?

And why is her rep saying she was only there because her assistant sprained her ankle?

I agree there is definately more to this story. I have a feeling her family history has something to do with it. Maybe it would make her less marketable and bankable as an actress if she has a serious medical condition. Exhaustion is generic medical term, it is not a diagnosis. I am sure they will be doing more tests to find out what is wrong with her or they might already know if she is on medication.

Given that her father died of a heart attack, and she had numbness, I'm going to say that there were no drugs involved.

Please, if Kate could be the poster child of heart disease or MS she would EAT THAT SHIT UP. If there's a negative diagnosis coming, believe me... we'll hear about it.

^You'd think so, but not always. It can also be 'unglamourous' to have an illness.
