I have nothing against staying pure. Your choice, whatever. But I hate how I was taught in church that it's a promise between you and God, but guess where they had some kids make the promise. What is a kid meant to do if they don't agree - say no and very obviously not wear a ring? Yeah, right. Not at the risk of embarassing and unwanted attention, when you know that family, friends and the church community are going to judge you for it. I would have hated to be pressured into a "decision" like that as a young teen.

I'd much rather have the teen idols promoting virginity than fucking like rabbits and being praised and glorified for it by the media.

I do think some of these kids are forced into wearing purity rings by overzealous parents and youth ministers, and that's unfortunate. However, it seems like the Jonas brothers chose this for themselves, and I don't think the idea of a teenager wanting to wait until marriage is anything that should be made fun of or put down. I personally believe that there are many reasons, not just religious, why it's a good idea to wait. If they can help some kids feel better about their own decisions to wait or even encourage some kids to really think about it and make that decision for the first time, I don't see how that could be a bad thing.

Because it's the exact polar opposite of being overly sexualized and celebrated.. it's being "pure" and celebrated, the notion that SEX IS BAD AND EVIL as some sort of universal constant.
