    RIP Jett.

What I find more sad is that in the past couple of years, as this child grew older and his behaviors more 'anti-social' it seems like John and Kelly were embarrassed by him. I clearly remember just w/in the past year or so when Kelly was in an interview and she spoke about her daughter Ella in an exuberant way. And not one mention of Jett. So sad and so blatant.

Yep that's my point. Accidents can be prevented if parents are honest about their kids condition and take appropriate measures. Such as anti-seizure meds, supervision, help with bathing etc.

Either way, its a tragedy. They raised him for 16 yrs and now he's gone.

OMG I just read about this news. I am so sorry for them. NO ONE should ever have to outlive a child.

*House voice* Could have been both. The seizure causes the fall resulting in the head injury.

Agreed. Witholding any kind of medical treatment for "religious" reasons is
something I will never understand. Isn't it the Jehova's witnesses who do
    not allow surgery and vaccinations?

ITA, if one wouldn't know they had an older son, one would think
    Ella was an only child!

True, but there's a difference between not dragging him around and
not mentioning him at all in public!

Still, it's a sad incident and a deeply tragic end to a much too short
life that could have been more fulfilled, if only given the right care.

I'm also thinking of poor little Ella. She's only 8 and she must've noticed
some things and I'm sure she must have wondered every now and then.
I wonder what BS her parents told her as to why they never mentioned
    her brother in public.

(CNN) -- The 16-year-old son of actor John Travolta died Friday morning after suffering a seizure while vacationing with his family in the Bahamas, Travolta's attorney told CNN.

John Travolta and family were vacationing in the Bahamas when son Jett died Friday.

"At this point, we know that John Travolta and Kelly Preston's only son, Jett, had a seizure at around 10 a.m. this morning," attorney Michael Ossi said. "All attempts to revive him were unsuccessful."

The cause of death is not known, Ossi said. An autopsy will be conducted Monday. His body will be transferred to Ocala, Florida, for burial, he said.

Jett's death "was completely out of the blue," he said. "John and Kelly are happy when their children are happy. This is the worst day of John's life."

The Travoltas also have a daughter, Ella, 8.

Bahamian police said a caretaker at the West End resort where the Travoltas were vacationing found the teenager unconcious in the bathroom. Jett Travolta was taken by ambulance to Rand Memorial Hospital in Freeport and was pronounced dead on arrival, police said.

Jett Travolta had a developmental disability that his parents, John Travolta and Kelly Preston, have linked to Kawasaki disease, an inflammatory disorder of the artery walls that most commonly occurs in young children and can lead to heart disease.

According to the American Heart Association, "About 80 percent of the people with Kawasaki disease are under age 5. Children over age 8 are rarely affected."

The causes of Kawasaki disease are unknown. Some scientists think it's caused by an infectious agent, such as a virus. Some studies have noted a link between the disease and carpet cleaning chemicals.

"With my son ... I was obsessive about cleaning -- his space being clean, so we constantly had the carpets cleaned," John Travolta told CNN's Larry King in 2001. "And I think, between him, the fumes and walking around, maybe picking up pieces or something, he got what is rarely a thing to deal with, but it's Kawasaki Syndrome."

Jett Travolta was about 2 at the time, John Travolta said.

I realize this. Like I said, I never paid much attention to his interviews. John Travolta is one of those people whom I like as an actor, but I have zippo interest in his personal life. Once I found out he was a Scientologist, I didn't want to know any more. His personal life isn't nearly as entertaining as Tom's.

No. My neighbors of many years are Witnesses and they do not disallow any medical treatments except for blood transfusions. In fact the husband had open heart surgery 2 years ago and got by just fine with saline blood expanders. They also vaccinate their children, and seek psychiatric help and meds if needed.

Okay, thank you. Yeah, I knew about the transfusions. Then it must be
yet another religion that doesn't allow surgery or vaccinations. Anybody
    know which?

That's a shitty way to start the year. But, with that said, if they weren't giving the kid any medication because it was against their CULT's belief then they're partially responsible.
