They took tin-type photos of Jesse James and other notorious bank robbers in their coffins to discourage other would-be bank robbers.
There was also a time that they performed capital punishment in the town square with families with children in attendance.
Nothing is new under the sun....and people have always been interested in death as that is what lies ahead for us all.

Is he? I wondered about that due to his eyes always looking so sunken back into his head. I was hoping for his sake that it was a genetic thing.
But then, I'm naive....

I would rather have my brother alive and talked about 24/7, what a stupid thing to say. I know what he means, but who wouldn't prefer their loved one to be alive, no matter what the cost

I was absolutely CRUSHED when River died. And yeah, back when the only source of info was 16 magazine and Tiger Beat - we did get the company line -"River is a vegan. River loves to live a healthy lifestyle...blah blah blah...". Maybe if there was a more obtrusive media then, he'd still be alive. People with nothing to hide, hide nothing.

BTW i totoally regret stumbling on that picture, its not nice to see a dead person.

Yeah, I saw some pics of her too, only they were from the morgue.

So I guess they tried to pass his drug induced skinniness off on healthy eating?

I don't either, but I do remember always hearing about his "healthy" lifestyle, so I always assumed that's why he was sooo thin. Dude was scrawny..... after he died it all made sense.
I know he was only a kid at the time, but in Stand By Me he was kind of stout.
That was before the addictions though.
He was so cute in that movie, and I loved him as the young Indiana Jones.

I agree actors, at least SOME actors, are earning far too much money for what they do, but I don't think it's exploitation if the producers are willing to pay it. They don't have to pay it, after all. People who work on sets, especially if they are unionized, and most of them are, make very good money for what they do. A friend of mine was a propmaster on The X-Files and let's just say he owns a beautiful waterfront home in a city where shacks start at $1 million, travels extensively and only works now when he chooses to. And he was essentially a glorified carpenter. And the crew salaries are even higher in the States, especially when you start adding up the overtime.
Quite a few decent actors also work for scale in indie films, or take their profits on the back end, which rarely materializes. Most actors are not earning millions for every movie role and those who do -- their days may be numbered. Hollywood has always excelled at creative accounting. A movie can make a huge amount of money and yet the producers/studios will claim there are no profits. They are just as greedy as the A list actors who earn big bucks, IMO. And absolutely no one is forcing the public to go see these films. If nobody went, the huge salaries would start going down fast, a trend that is already in motion according to The Hollywood Reporter and Variety and other sources I read regularly.
It's not exploitation if all the parties are willing.

I have no sympathy; WE make them who they are. They want to sell themselves, so shut the fuck up and we'll put another buck in your pocket.
They do glamorous work. These actors who take their shirts off and are paid to roll around with a gorgeous actress dont know what HARD WORK is.

Why so much hostility toward actors? All he said was that he never exploited anyone and he wasn't a voyeur. How is that being disrespectful or arrogant? I don't get it.
Just because you are an actor does not give someone the right to totally invade your privacy so that they can make a buck. THAT is exploitation since it isn't consensual. Taking a picture of somebody in a coffin -- how is that not exploitation? *confused*
If actors are considered exploitative because they earn money for what they do, then how are the paps or tabs or celeb blogs any different?

Because they make a shitload of money for doing nothing. Saying a few lines.. wow, shit, hard work.
Really, they only deserve to be millionaires because they lose their privacy. Then I can say fair enough its a hard life.

I always thought that River and Joaquin looked nothing alike as well. Joaquin is handsome and extremely talented but every time he opens his mouth he puts me off. Not to mention that ever time I see him I remember that godawful firefighter movie he was in where I couldn't wait for him to die already, it was so boring.
