I thought a Jewish funeral had to be held at least 24 hours after the death. No?

^^As far as I understand, a funeral can't be held over the Sabbath though. So, in this case, Sunday is the earliest the funeral could be held. I think.

From sundown Friday til sundown tonight is Shabbots and there are no funerals, mortuary pick ups, nor weddings during that time.

yup, you guys are right about the timing.

they probably won't have a traditional shiva, but i'm sure they will have some kind of closed reception somewhere. and they are having a service in a temple, those are always traditional.

I know everyone has to go sometime, but it would have been nice to keep Joan around awhile longer. RIP.

My friend is going tomorrow. Will report back. The invite said it made it real.

I'll post something she wrote down below in our lower level area.

Temple Emanu-El is Reform. I attended a wedding there a few years ago and they did not follow all traditions. I wonder if they allow breaking of tradition with funerals too?

well, i doubt they would allow flowers or an ornate casket. maybe they are more liberal with music? hard to say.

weddings are different, there is more leeway. even in a conservative temple.

Thanks. BTW - if you are in NYC I recommend visiting this synagogue for their museum. I was impressed. LOL

I'm pretty sure that it was except for Jewish Holidays and remember that it was free. They have a very nice Judaica collection and host other exhibits.

Has anyone seen the Wizard Of Oz? When the munckins sing " the wicked witch of the west is gone" and they continue to sing.
Joan husband killed himself to get away from her and now that Joan is in heaven will the husband welcome her or run away to hell?
