I love all his old gossip. Maybe because they were sold as squeaky clean in public their tawdry affairs seems even juicier. I think Hedy Lamaar was one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood. she was also very intelligent. She invented some secret code machine for WW2.

For my money Louise Brooks was the most intriguing of the silent era stars. She slept with both Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin (among many, many others!) and found Charlie lacking in comparison!


She burned out pretty quickly, and in the late 20's and 30's stars like Joan Crawford, Barbara Stanwyk, Norma Shearer (who all did plenty of racy pre-code films with "adult" subject matter) became ascendant. Veronica Lake, Rita Hayworth and so forth were big stars in the 40's.
