Yeah but they married in 1960 & homosexuality wasn’t even partially made not illegal (not sure how else to put that) until 1967 & the Stonewall riots weren’t until 1969...

I saw from a hill top his estate at Luberon,French Provence. The guide pointed it out as the place William and Kate stayed at when she was photographed topless. The place is secluded, not even on a public road, how could they take pictures?

^ They were on a balcony and it was long distance?

I've never understood why he sold his mother's place in Mustique for a place in France.

As much as it should irritate the absolute fuck out of me, I kind of love how earnest and engaged Charles gets when he goes on his socioeconomic safaris to see how The Other Half live.

He means well, I think. At least when it comes to this kind of stuff, and bees and the environment. He could never be described as intersectionally aware but he seems to have finally worked out that it is his JOB to try and make life a bit better for people in the Kingdom. Like Mummy.

this description just made me think of the bit in one of the Discworld books when Sam Vimes, a hard knock copper from the dodgy bit of the big city who ends up falling in love with and marrying the richest, most noble grand lady in the city, Sybil Ramkin, meets Sybil's swamp dragon friends. (Swamp dragons are dotty little creatures who are just one bad sneeze or fart away from exploding into a fireball... and for some reason are bred and much prized by royalty and aristocrats on the Disc. So think dodgy overly inbred lap dogs in the Round World...)

Anyway, Sam arrives home to find their backyard is full of Ladies Of A Certain Age, all mucking about with the swamp dragons, in gumboots/wellingtons, and tweed as far as the eye can see. He briefly talks to a particularly tweedy old battle axe, who looks and acts much like Anne... only to realise later on that he's speaking to the Dowager Duchess of Quirm, the richest person on the Disc... and she had swamp dragon poo on her jacket for their whole conversation and didn't give a shit...

If anyone in the BRF has been sitting on something that they were worried would be a "scandal" if came out, now is the time to let it fly!

Still not forgetting about Andy, but hey, I'd love to see what else they can come up with as a distraction.

I have finally starting watching The Crown on Netflix and I watched the episode where they got married just last night. She was still pregnant at the time of the wedding, but she was also married. It was strongly suggested that the child might be his. I'm not really sure why no one seemed to think her husband could be the father (unless I missed something somewhere along the line).

And completely off-topic, but I just have to ask ... what the heck were they thinking when the cast JFK and Jackie? The actors/actresses in this production are, well, bloody awesome. The woman playing the young queen is brilliant (I'm very sad to hear she was replaced in season 3), and I love the guy portraying the Duke of Windsor. He comes off at times as being a bit weasily, but then I often find myself feeling rather sorry for him. I was looking forward to the visit of the American president and the First Lady until I saw them. They almost seemed like an afterthought, like casting just grabbed two dark-haired people from the crowd and threw them into the show. They were just so wrong for those parts. It was painful watching Elizabeth showing Jackie around the palace. *sigh*

The future Earl was fooling around with a lot of people at that point. I think no one took his royal relationship too seriously (except perhaps for Margaret) so he just went with it because it was amusing and would help his career.

I agree that JFK and Jackie were not well cast. Are they ever, though?

For me, Claire Foy was the ultimate Queen and Vanessa Kirby the ultimate Princess Margaret in the early series of the Crown.

I'm always suprised at how much better King Willem-Alexander looks with the beard, why didn't he wear one for decades?
