She's naturally prettier than her mother was.

Fellow Somali supermodel Waris Dirie is much prettier IMO:

Bless her heart, she wrote an amazing book called "Desert Flower", which told a no-holds barred story of her life in Somalia. How she was forced to undergo female circumcision, a forced marriage to a much, much older man, how she ran away to England to become a fashion model and a Bond girl. She's awesome.

Someone has to be pretty fucking shallow to abuse their daughter over how she looks. That girl is beautiful on her own, and I hope that hearing her mother put her down for years hasn't left her with permanent emotional damage.
Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but some abuse the privilege.

Iman had a pretty nasty taxi accident back in the 80's. The docs were able to put her face back together, but I think it made her even more obsessed with her appearance. Sad, really.

I had no idea. That's really scary.

Seems like an extremely pretentious backhanded comment on Iman's part. Add in the shit about her overweight daughter and I think I know enough about her personality to deduce that this wasn't an innocent comment but a catty, snarky one.

Models are never expected to be smart or well-read or brainy. So when they go outside the box, it can be unfortunate sometimes.

The Dumbest Supermodel Quotes of All Time - Associated Content

Perhaps the most infamously dumb and ignorant statement ever made by a supermodel, and goodness knows you could make a billion dollars if dumb supermodel quotes were diamonds, is this one from stupid supermodel extraordinaire Linda Evangelista, who I never

even thought was more than plain, by the way: "It was God who made me so beautiful. If I weren't, then I'd be a teacher." Yeah, um, Linda...even in that school that little George W. Bush attended as a kid you would have had some major league trouble getting a job as a teacher. You see, being a teacher requires, well, that you possess a brain. Alas, in that respect you are underqualified to be a teacher, although I would not totally give up on the idea of becoming a Principal. Thankfully, of course, you are perfectly qualified to be a supermodel.

Yes, Linda Evangelista proved that models really do not have the single slightest idea what life is like under the terms of reality we have all agreed to sign. And if Ms. Evangelista's bottomless well of idiocy and ignorance don't do the trick for you, then perhaps some of these other classic dumb quotes from stupid supermodels will convince you that one supermodel discussing another supermodel's intelligence is roughly as useful as one Geico caveman discussing another Geico cavemen's good looks.

"I love the confidence that makeup gives me." Said by the amazingly confident Tyra Banks. She must be confident to the point of Dubya-style arrogance to think that she is in any way qualified to give anyone any advice on something other than the application of makeup by an overly qualified makeup stylist. Memo to Tyra: If you have to rely on illuion then you really aren't experiencing confidence.

"I think most people are curious about what it would be like to be able to meet yourself--it's eerie." A supermodel named Christy Turlington made this truly astonishing statement. I don't think I've ever heard of Christy Turlington, but then again it appears she's just as unfamiliar with herself as I am.

"I've looked in the mirror every day for 20 years. It's the same face." Claudia Schiffer. Wasn't she the supermodel who dated magician David Copperfield? Dang, they must have looked like The Giantess and the Midget at Papa Lazarou's Pandemonium Carnival. Well, hey, what can you expect from a supermodel who dates David Copperfield? I'm willing to bet, however, that it really hasn't been the same Claudia Schiffer face every day for twenty years why? Because...

"Everyone should have enough money to get plastic surgery." All you gots to do is look at Claudia Schiffer's creepy Play-Doh facial appearance to know she's not only got enough money to get plastic surgery, but has had enough time to get a lot done. Beverly Johnson made this wonderful observation. I do not know who she is or what she looks like. Perhaps neither does Christy Turlington.

"We're not Prince Charles and Princess Di. We don't think of ourselves as royalty. We happen to be working people." Maybe intelligent statements like this is why Christie Brinkley's husband went looking for someone more intellectually advanced; a 17 year old. Could have gone with a three year old dog, apparently.

Michelle has a great figure, and a good style sense, but her face ain't that great. She has a permanent angry eyebrows things going on.

I think Michelle is gorgeous. It's got nothing to do with her being the First Lady, because using that logic Iman is 'beautiful' because she's a model. After all the make-up, lighting, photoshop, etc I can't call Iman 'beautiful' because I don't know what she really looks like.

Michelle is inspirational for dark-skinned black women who want to feel beautiful. People in this thread naming light-skinned black women like Tyra and biracial Halle Berry show how hard it is for darker women. We can't match the typical 'blonde, blue-eyed white woman' who magazines usually hold up as 'beautiful'.

Just another case of beauty being subjective.
I was waiting for someone to say that (sigh). Iman is the same complexion as Michelle, by the way. Naomi Campbell is also the same dark complexion. Tyra Banks is brown skin, so is Halle Berry. I don't know why people consider them 'light skin'. Raven Symone, Beyonce, LisaRaye, Tisha Campbell...those are light skin black women.

I'd hardly call Iman having a similar look with anyone, at least, not among black American women. Other east African woman, probably. There was an African model on America's Next Top Model who resembled Iman a lot.

    So was Iman.

    Anyway, She's okay looking..

That sucks. I love dark skin. In Australia, most people of African heritage are refugees (or the first generation children of) from Sudan or Somalia and I often find myself enviously thinking what gorgeous complexions the girls have.

This coming from a translucent, tan-resistant quite literally white chick, who's often felt awkward for the opposite reason... I'm not an olive/gold enough Caucasian, but I'm not blonde and blue eyed enough (well, at all) to be considered attractively "porcelain", either. Just pale.

Screw the magazines. There are so many reasons why dark skin must be awesome. I'd never look like a junkie whose had 3 hours sleep because of the circles under my eyes ever again, people would never ask me if I was "feeling okay?" even when I was in perfect health, I wouldn't go lobster red every time I'm embarassed, I wouldn't be doomed to a lifetime of neurotically checking every mole for mutations from the Aussie sun... I could just keep on listing them. Heh, you're right, beauty is subjective.

And Laura Bush and Michelle Obama were/are both very good looking first ladies.
Yeah, Iman comes from a culture that is very colorist. I'm not surprised to hear the rumors about how she treated her daughter. There were blind items about it.

Iman has bleached her skin, there is a photo of her when she was younger at the top of this page where she looks to be quite dark and in Michelle's color range. But right now, Iman and Michelle are not the same color nor do they have the same features. Halle and Tyra are not considered brownskiin either, anybody with a clearshot view that has enough experience with black ppl of all colors can see that.

The reason why these women are considered light is because in the black community alot of ppl can typically be much much darker than Halle and Tyra. I'm much darker than them so they are fairskin to me. You have to realize how dark a lot of us are so in our eyes they are light, but to a White person who is much lighter they may appear brown, when really they are not.

Iman doesn't like to talk about it...she could and it would help influence people, but I guess she doesn't want anyone in her business.

I think Waris is very brave for what she has done....she has done good work on behalf of the UN regarding this butchery of young African (and Middle Eastern) women.
