I don't know why you even pretend that they are equals and that this is a 'normal' relationship.

Sometime very occasional model/actress whatever meets Hollywood superstar at his local drinking joint, gets pregnant and he scarpers. The end. But not quite the end because of his pesky PR and his wealth.

Why wouldn't they be equals? I don't know anything except what I've read about both of them, and just because they met in a bar and haven't stayed together forever doesn't mean to me that she's some goldigging harpy who got poor widdle star Hugh Grant trapped into parenthood. Just because she's not famous doesn't mean she's not his equal, and because he didn't use protection when having sex, he knew it was a possibility.

Like I said, for all I know they dated, decided it didn't work out but were friends and both wanted kids at this point and so they decided to be co-parents. They would hardly be the first friends, or even the first exes, who had a kid together. Her ex-boyfriend's description of Grant coming over and them chatting comfortably at a restaurant while Tinglan was with her boyfriend and Grant was dining with another woman sounds to me that they're friends even though their own dating life didn't work out. Maybe the timing was right for both of them that they wanted a kid, maybe they liked that the other person understood not wanting to get married, or had the same perspective on life, or whatever, and so they decided to have a kid together. Hugh seems happy to be a dad and it sounds like Tinglan is being treated very well, so I don't know why anyone is supposed to feel sorry for him.

or just maybe, Occam's Razor applies here.
And I don't feel sorry for Hugh, I think he's an insufferable prick.

Why are we supposed to feel sorry for him?

Because of the media intrusion, I guess. I don't feel sorry for him, but I like the cranky old bitch. He doesn't pretend to be nice and frequently makes fun of himself. I hope he can step up and be a good dad. Time will tell.

Hugh Grant Reveals Baby Daughter's Name: Tabitha!Celebrity Moms
    March 19, 2012 AT 10:37AM
    By Zach Johnson

It's been five months since Hugh Grant became a father, but the 51-year-old actor hasn't said much about his pride and joy -- until now!

In an interview with The Guardian, the Did You Hear About the Morgans? actor admitted that he's fallen in love with baby Tabitha, his daughter with Chinese actress Tinglan Hong.

"Lots of people warned me that the baby period is not that exciting. But I am excited, actually," Grant said. "I thought, well, I'll bluff through -- but very little bluffing has been required."

Though Hong's pregnancy wasn't planned, "I like my daughter very much," Grant revealed. "Has she changed my life? I'm not sure. Not yet. Not massively, no. But I'm absolutely thrilled to have had her -- I really am. And I feel a better person."

Grant -- who has never been married, despite dating Elizabeth Hurley for 13 years -- said he's wary of spoiling his little girl.

"There are few things in life I believe in 100 percent, but one is not giving your children money," the actor explained. "I see nothing but f-ck-ups among my trust fund friends. It's like 99 percent f-ck-ups. So I would not want to do that to my children, no."

When his rep confirmed Tabitha's birth in November, Grant's relationship with Hong was described as "a fleeting affair."

"He and the mother have discussed everything and are on very friendly terms," the rep told Us Weekly.

'I like her very much' Oh. He doesn't sound very enthusiastic.

No it doesn't. Celebs have to know their words are going to be forever available to their children. It would suck to hear your parents say they "like" you very much and that you hadn't changed their lives much.

I could talk about my kids all day long and those two comments would never, ever come up.

I don't think much of him...but he does use words like "thrilled" and "excited" as well.

I do think he's basically a narcissist and I read an interview a year or 2 ago where he thought he might have kids because it would make him a better person. Sure enough, here he says that he 'feels a better person.' Yeah, uh huh, Hugh.

Hopefully the mom will be devoted to the child and he'll at least show up when he needs to and provide the financial support. It could be worse for the kid.

I didn't believe him until he threw in the "I really am."

Wait until she is two. She will have him wrapped up in ribbons! His heart is a goner.

I think that is how he jokes around. He sounds like he is very happy to have her.

I like that he talks about the early stages. He is right that for the father, the early stages are not as great as they are for the mom, especially when the father doesn't live there. He said he is excited, and not having to fake it, so I will give him credit for that.

Meh, he had to say something and it came out all jumbled.

I notice he said "children." Perhaps there are others.
