At the time Charles and Diana married, yeah, you're right. I think Camilla got tired of waiting on Charles when they were seeing each other and saw the writing on the wall and moved on. I don't think the royal family thought she was suitable and wouldn't bend on that.

I guess the family saw how well Charles and Diana worked out and loosened up because they didn't seem to be nearly as tightassed about William and Kate.

Charles and Camilla started their love affair when both were young and single. He wanted to marry her but she wasn't considered "suitable" by the Court because she wasn't a virginal young aristocrat which was the usual template for a future queen. He could and should have insisted but he's a notorious ditherer so Camilla married someone else instead because she knew full well that she wasnt acceptable. Chazza then had to do his duty and go ahead with an arranged marriage with predictable results.

As we have seen, times have changed and these ridiculous rules have changed thanks, ironically, to the Diana Debacle and the lessons learned from it.

Looks like the people who rejected Camilla the first time are the ones to blame for the mess that followed.

Had Diana lived, I think she would have hated Kate. Kate is young and beautiful and I don't think 50+ Diana would have handled it well, or with another woman being the center of William's life. William was pressured by Diana into being her caretaker.

Unfortunately, I bet you're right. Di had a major personality disorder imo and I don't think she would've liked the competition. I've always thought she had a good heart, and she certainly was no dummy the way she kicked the Palace in the nuts and got away with it, but at the end of the day, she was pretty crazy.

Exactly...the article's hugely one-sided. History is re-written by the survivor, I guess! Diana was fucked up already, but I know I wouldn't have handled walking into Camilla and Charles' cozy relationship any better than she did.

    Frankly, I would've cut a bitch. And I don't mean myself.

Penny Junor always writes hagiographies about Charles. I suspect this is to counter the inevitable speculation/gloom about the Queen's succession around the Jubilee celebrations.

Kate has had years to get accustomed to living in a fishbowl. Also, I think he really loves her.
Kate Middleton's family were working class. Her mother grew up on a council estate (her dad was a pilot & g-dad was a solicitor so he's the last middle class) Family of Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. The mother has worked hard to climb the social ladder & make money & groomed the kids to do the same. The girls (IMO) always had this sort of marriage set out for them from the start, Kate just "got lucky" but from what I understand she persuded him. From the body language in those photos she where's the pants in that relationship. She is also now mimicking Diana with her very slender figure.

Yup. Not even any possible pregnancy announcement (not that I believe that she is), because the palace see the jubilee as a big big deal.

Well, that was one extremely biased piece against "crazy" Diana. I'm not a fan of any of them; the adoration for royals (especially such bad role models as the British royal family) is quite ridiculous.

Charles and Camilla were in love. As I've always read and heard it, she wanted to get married, but he first wanted to finish his stint with the Marines, I believe. Duty before love. She wasn't going to wait for a few years, not even for him, and got married to Parker-Bowles, pretty much breaking Charles' heart.
However, a rushed marriage with someone who isn't your big love, is not a recipe for success, so soon Chuck and the Rottweiler picked up their affair and continued to do so, while just about everybody around them was aware of it, but it was all handled hush hush.

Elizabeth urged Chuckie it was time to find a bride who could provide heirs: he was around 30-32. Several candidates were screened. He'd once had something with Diana's older sister. They remembered the younger sister had a huge crush on him since her early teens. She was very young, practically without a past, so seemed the perfect party to provide heirs. Their whole "courtship" was very artificial and superficial. Chuckie kept up with Camilla the entire time. Supposedly, Diana found out on the eve of her wedding that the two were still romantically linked.

She was a practically inexperienced 21-year-old, not too bright or educated; he was 34, with an upbringing incomparable to anyone else's: their match may have looked good and practical on paper, but in reality was doomed from the get go.

I might have been able to swallow the contents of the article, that it was all crazy Diana's fault, if it weren't for the fact that of the four children of the Queen, only the youngest, Edward, seems to have a "stable" married life. Anne, Charles and Andrew all screwed up, and although none of their former spouses win the Darwin award for marriage (or human for that matter) material, THEY'RE the ones who picked them, or agreed with the pick, so shut the hell up and let the blame go around all parties involved, and stop kicking the dead (even if they were crazy and manipulative).
Or does the writer of this article think her biased view and rehashing of this sorry episode in history, is not going to have an effect on William?

Yes, it's actually a very unpleasant article about William as well. Double whammy.

And fails to mention that Penny Junor and Prince Charles go way back.

As much as I like reading up on the inside dirt about the Royals, it's the absolute dead last family that I'd like to be in. I'd rather hang out with the Corleone family (yes, the fictional one) than the Royal family. They're a combination of dull, boring, overprivileged, out of touch, arrogant and irresponsible. Oh, and fugly.

The Prince was dumbfounded. He hadn’t the faintest idea what was the matter with his beautiful wife, but imagined he must be responsible.
He's in love with, and fucking, someone else and he has no idea what's wrong? Are you kidding?

Kate's parents met when they were both flight attendants and then her dad became a dispatcher. He wasn't a pilot but they are happy for people to think he was. They started a party crap business and made enough money for Carol to indulge her voracious social climbing by sending the kids to posh schools and unis where they could meet and snag a posh spouse. Kate went to St Andrews uni specifically to get her prince and it looks like Pippa is lining up to be the future Duchess of Northumberland. And their brother is already a queen so Carol is more than happy.
