It is the custom, because they have done an honorable thing-no one can do it for free. Getting paid does not make it less.
If you are reading this in English, not German-thank a soldier.
There are so many sacrifices made and Airborne troops are among the best. They serve with pride.

I am the proud daughter of a Warrior-United States Army Officer for 30 years. I know well the sacrifices made.No one goes into the army to get rich. Like police & fire fighters, it is their calling. They deserve respect.

It doesn't bother me that they mentioned his military background--usually any obituary lists your life accomplishments, where you worked etc. So I don't think it's out of line here.

What irks me is this guy gets mentioned on TMZ just because he's that pukey famewhore's stepbrother?? What's next, is Spencer gonna take posed pictures of her crying at the funeral?

Sorry, no disrespect for the dead intended, but those two make me ill.

Those people who sign up know what they are getting into, making their country safer for their friends, family and countless, thankless gits at home. Not all war is for oil and other resources (though, I'll admit, they mostly are) and not all soldiers go in to blow people away. Many go on peacekeeping missions, safely delivering food and medicine to the poor civilians being decimated by enemy soldiers, rioters, religious fanatics, and/or their own governments.

Please, have a little respect and compassion (if not patriotism) for the people who have the courage to actively right the wrongs commited by society.

    RIP to him.

Too bad there'll be posed mourning pics soon with the black hat and sunglasses.

I think most people are missing the irony of the situation, survive going to war, come home, go back to work, slip off of icy roof and die.

The irony effect would not exist without knowing he served in the Army and went war.

My .02: Yes, those who join any branch of the armed forces should expect to have to defend their country at some point, as it is what they signed up for. I don't think they should expect to have to go to other countries and stay there indefinitely for no good reason...

That's very tragic to hear. But of course, Heidi will just be an attention whore as usual and use this as a chance to grab more publicity.

Maybe she could do the whole, sit on a chair in the middle of the sidewalk and cry, routine again.

It takes a pretty big man or woman to sign up for any of our country services and I don't mean big in stature.

Military service or not, who gives a flying fuck. It's Heidi Montag's step brother, they're all irrelevant to me.

    Wow.

    Just wow.

They choose to serve their country so others aren't forced to by draft. You should be THANKING THEM that your family members and friends aren't forced to defend our country.

And if you don't have a "patriotic" bone in your body, why are you here?

    Leave.

You won't be missed. Trust me.

    Oh, for fuck's sake.

This thread isn't about who is and isn't fucking patriotic. Can we just drop the damn subject, and let the thread die? Please? Because there's NO reason for us to be wrapped up over the death of a man who may have served at one time or another. NONE. WHO was he for you? Nobody. He was Heidi Montag's step brother, for God's sake! He was nobody! What good is he if he serves in a war that's illegal, anyway??

    ...

Oh, I'm sorry, I guess that makes me sound "unpatriotic". I may aswell crawl back under my rock, with everyone else.
