I'll fess up - I can remember Paul McCartney singing a couple of songs on the Thriller album and then later learning that oh yeah, he was in a band before that too. Of course, I was about 5 so I think I still deserve a little cred.

Blackbird is one of my favorite songs. I used to slow down the tempo and sing my boys to sleep with it. One time my oldest, when he was about 12, asked why he knew all the words to that song when he hadn't heard it before and accused me of brainwashing him..

The late, lamented Eva Cassidy sings a beautiful version of Blackbird.

I asked my thirteen year old if she knew who Paul McCartney was and she said no. I asked if she knew the Beatles and she said yes and started singing Yellow Submarine. Weren't they all tripping on acid when they wrote that?

Yes, and their songwriting skilz suffered badly for it.

The Beatles always have been and always will be the greatest pop band in history. That being said Motown is absolutely incredible and certainly the most successful record label in history, as far as creativity and musical genius is concerned, at least. Imho.
But, I'm still questioning how the hell Paul got roped into a marriage and child with this crazy snatch...

Probably crazy snatch magic (patent pending - order now and get the second crazy snatch magic free; not recommended for children).

I tend to prefer their later music when they were tripping.

I'm amazed she could keep the crazy tamped down for long enough to get herself hitched and a baby (forgot which came first, the wedding I think). Her snatch isn't that special. She must have been putting something in his vegan food.

It's not magic snatch, it's because Paul's a wanker and water seeks its own level. Even sweet little George thought he was a wanker.

As someone who hasn't done drugs, I think the Beatles' music makes a really strong case for trying them out. "Got to Get You Into My Life", according to McCartney, was an ode to pot, and the first time he tried it.

I also think it's kind of ironic that some of the songs I liked best were written when one of them was pissed off. "Only a Northern Song", by Harrison, was about the fact that a publishing company "Northern Songs" owned the rights to everything he wrote and that Lennon and McCartney each owned 15% of the company while Harrison owned less than 1%.

And "Here Comes the Sun" was written when Harrison was feeling especially oppressed by music executives and lawyers who were draining away all his enjoyment of music. He finally escaped over to Clapton's house just when it was getting nicer outside, and wrote the song.

Well hooking up with a crazy bitch worked in his favor, because now he looks like a saint to the world by comparison. It certainly was some expensive snatch.

Lennon at least his equal in wankerdom. Abusive toward his wife (Yoko), and toward the girlfriend he left Yoko for temporarily. Ignored his first son. As has been said before, great artists have feet of clay like the rest of us.
