I'm still waiting to see what evidence they have--that they didn't have before--that would cause the fall of a major Hollywood power broker. Victim testimony or recordings that they didn't have before? Incriminating emails from Harvey himself? Whatever it is, it's hard to believe they didn't have it before, but I'm curious why it's being taken seriously now. All of a sudden everyone stopped covering for him, what happened?

I'm glad he is being exposed but I don't understand what has changed here.

*eta: started posting before fgg's post. Weinstein's declining power could help explain things, I could see that.

Here's a story that makes Emma Thompson look pretty good (source: Harvey Weinstein called ?Captain America?s Hayley Atwell ?a fat pig? | Page Six)

In that same year, he also traveled to the English countryside to visit the set of “Brideshead Revisited,” an adaptation of Evelyn Waugh’s classic novel about sexual mores and a golden age of aristocracy on the eve of World War II. Miramax, his first company, which he started with his brother Bob in 1979, was in negotiations to distribute the film in North America.
During a break in the filming, the brash Hollywood powerbroker behind such blockbusters as “The English Patient” and “The Crying Game” walked over to Hayley Atwell, a then-24-year-old British-American actress who was playing Julia Flyte in the movie. Weinstein started flirting with the actress, who was clearly nervous, starring in one of her first major roles. At lunch, Weinstein sat with the cast and crew, and told Atwell to watch what she was eating, explaining that he had just come from watching that morning’s filming and he didn’t like what he saw, a film-industry source told The Post“You look like a fat pig on screen,” said Weinstein, who had just come from watching the dailies. “Stop eating so much.”When Atwell told her Oscar-winning co-star Emma Thompson that the Miramax head ordered her to go on a diet, Thompson flipped. She took Weinstein aside and threatened to quit if he forced Atwell or any other woman on set to go on a diet.“Emma called Harvey out for being a misogynist and a bully and really gave him a hard time,” the source said. Weinstein backed down.Atwell, who has gone on to a successful film career, including playing love interest Peggy Carter in “Captain America,” emerged pretty much unscathed from her encounter with Weinstein.

i hear a lot of rumors about a lot of people. not sure what you can do unless you SEE something. and this stuff with harvey happened behind closed doors. the journalist who came forward had less to lose, came forward, so others followed. then the board had to act.
I'm saving my anger for Matt Damon and Russell Crowe for actively pitching in to squash the story about Harvey's personal pimp getting a $400k payoff. Actresses may have known or heard rumours and not had anything solid to act on or were too vulnerable in their career to speak out but Matt and Russell... This makes it sound like they benefited from the activities and didn't want their names coming out if the pimp decided to talk.

The way the article reads, though, is that they were asked to call and vouch for this Lombardo guy. Not to directly quash the story. By vouching for Lombardo, they would, however, be taking the air out of a key part of the story, though, which was that Lombardo was apparently functioning as a pimp and not a film exec. So, it doesn't look good either way. I would be more disappointed in Damon than Crowe, since Damon has a much more unsullied rep by comparison. I don't know if he felt like he owed Weinstein something after basically launching Damon's career with "Good Will Hunting".

Some of the blinds discussed on GR:

    2009
Lainey Blind 29/12/09 - Casting Couch
Big Lainey blind, where guesses instantly and unanimously go to Harvey Weinstein (and Gretchen Mol and Blake Lively).

    Casting Couch

It was mystifying several years ago why she was hyped the way she was hyped. Just another starlet with no real significant starring vehicles somehow ending up with a prestigious magazine cover proclaiming her as the next It. Well It never happened. And after all this time and a string of failures, she’s been trying to change the course. So she’s gone back to the major player who tried to make it happen for her the first time. There was an arrangement back then – her sexual services for his professional services – and apparently the same arrangement was resurrected recently in the hopes that she’ll finally confirm a juicy role to kickstart a stagnant career.

Never mind that he’s married. His wife benefits handsomely from his generosity and while he may not fulfill her with fidelity, he certainly makes up for it through client exchange. Probably better that way. And given what he looks like, it totally makes sense. But he is a legend in the business both for his accomplishments and for the way he leads these ladies to their accomplishments, counting a couple of award winners and a few box office heavyweights on his resumé…which is why he quickly tired of our poor girl and discarded her.

But not before drying her out. One day late summer, they were joined in a hotel suite by a third gentleman (identity insignificant), both of them enjoying her as she allowed herself to be taken, and, um, decorated appropriately, all for a reward at the end of the session – the privilege of simply looking at a script, no promise, no confirmation…just an advance read. And a suggestion to show up at a premiere for a few introductions. She is so desperate, it’s been so meagre, she submitted to the humiliation although gamely seems to have enjoyed it. An actor after all, obviously able to shut out her husband and child waiting for her back at home.

And then he just cut it off. Told her he could no longer help her. That her body in his bed was no longer required. Which of course only added to her degradation. She tried and tried to offer up more, willing to engage in further depravity, but was only met with rejection. Because he’s moved on. He’s hunting his next target. A young, nubile, blonde babe with a large profile and a perky rack who so far has been able to resist his advances but is trying to graduate from supporting roles in film, as the fact that she’s a headliner on the small screen has not helped with the quality of scripts she’s being offered, or with many of her auditions so far. She’s currently waiting on a big break and he’s trying to make sure it doesn’t happen, so that in her disappointment, she’ll come running to him, ready to wheel and deal.

Note: there are 4 famous names at play – the reject, the replacement, the power player, and his wife.

    2007
    Lainey 03/22/07
Another Lainey blind, where guesses eventually go to Harvey Weinstein (and Sienna Miller).

    Another on the Verge

Depressed and directionless and bitterly disappointed over recent professional failures and feeling stifled by a ruthless mentor, she is apparently on the verge – like a Britney verge. Except in her case, she’s lucky the pappies don’t have so much access.

Wild, wild partying and an endless cocktail of serious drugs supplied by an unsavoury group of new friends who are as degenerate as they come, relentlessly pushing their poisons into her body. And apparently she’s too messed up to stand up and walk out. Word is she’s either “out of it” half the time or so wild on tilt with insatiable chemical appetite that even her people can barely control her. She has been late or absent from a few recent engagements and while she was fortunate enough to have her team make new arrangements on the fly, her reputation is beginning to suffer…though that’s not the biggest problem.

The old friends fear the new friends are taking her down a dangerous path. Recent night out – by the end of the evening she was limp and lifeless and supposedly serviced by two different men and also at one point full on making out with another woman. She’s also been known to go missing, totally unreachable for hours at a time, and when she resurfaces, she’s a frightful mess.

Of course there are those trying to help her. And some days, she knows and she tries. But when the night comes and that crowd is calling, it’s trouble all over again.

    2008
    Ny Post/page Six 05/25/08

Page Six blind, where guesses eventually go to Harvey Weinstein (and "Long Island TV" woman).

    2. WHICH heavyduty movie mogul is back to his old tomcatting ways? Despite being married, he put some aggressive moves on a Long Island TV personality at Socialista - but she rebuffed him.

    2012
Lainey Blind - Thin for Nothing 02/21/12
Yet another Lainey blind, guesses include Harvey Weinstein, but posters think Michael Bay (and Ashley Greene) is a better match (it says he's a Director, not Producer). If it isn't HW and the quote is true (a-llegedly!!), then the BJs for auditions/powerful man manipulating young women is not just "one bad apple."
Lower tier actress - you know her name - is desperate for a big(ger) break. When she heard The Director was working on a new blockbuster, she begged and begged for a meeting. And he repeatedly kept dicking her around, cancelling at the last minute, making her wait for a couple of hours before sending the assistant out to tell her he wasn’t showing. I mean, he’s a legendary misogynist. And there’s nothing he likes more than playing mind games with young actresses.

Though he has no intention of putting her in his movies, he’s having a great time f-cking up her head. So he sent word that he might agree to see her but only if she loses some weight. This girl was fit to begin with. Like really fit. So she’s starving herself to let go of an extra 10, even though there’s not much there to begin with. But it’s not like it would help. Again, he’s just doing this because he can, for sh-ts and giggles, because he’s a twisted f-ck. As he explained to a colleague, “That girl is regular person pretty, and not even really regular person pretty. Definitely not hot enough for one of my movies.” And it’s like he’s almost insulted that she thought she was. Which is why this game, this game is just his way of putting her in her place, of punishing her for actually thinking she’d be good enough, sexy enough, to be his new model muse. He justifies it by saying he’s giving her a “life lesson”. Oh, and “if she offers me a blowjob, I’ll take it. One of these days, maybe I’ll throw her a favour”. Sad part is...she’s coming close to it. She’s coming very close.

Check out this story: (Source: https://www.thecut.com/2017/10/why-t...e-out-now.html)

In my mid-20s, I became a reporter and fact checker at the New YorkObserver, and part of my beat was covering the film business in New York. The night before the 2000 election, I was working on a story — perhaps my first seriously reported story — about O, the violent reimagining of Othellothat Miramax’s Dimension division was then sitting on, perhaps out of deference to the cringey clean-media message of the Al Gore–Joe Lieberman campaign, which Weinstein was publicly supporting; already there was talk of Weinstein’s ambitions in Democratic politics. After Weinstein failed to respond to my calls for comment, I was sent, on Election Eve 2000, to cover a book party he was hosting, along with my colleague Andrew Goldman. Weinstein didn’t like my question about O, there was an altercation; though the recording has alas been lost to time, I recall that he called me a cunt and declared that he was glad he was the “fucking sheriff of this fucking lawless piece-of-shit town.” When my colleague Andrew (who was also then my boyfriend) intervened, first calming him down and then trying to extract an apology, Weinstein went nuclear, pushing Andrew down a set of steps inside the Tribeca Grand — knocking him over with such force that his tape recorder hit a woman, who suffered long-term injury — and dragging Andrew, in a headlock, onto Sixth Avenue.

uch was the power of Harvey Weinstein in 2000 that despite the dozens of camera flashes that went off on that sidewalk that night, capturing the sight of an enormously famous film executive trying to pound in the head of a young newspaper reporter, I have never once seen a photo. Back then, Harvey could spin — or suppress — anything; there were so many journalists on his payroll, working as consultants on movie projects, or as screenwriters, or for his magazine.

Last list, I promise! A simple search of "harvey weinstein" brings up all kinds of weird crap.

    2008
Hillary Clinton donors threaten congressional Dems with cash cutoff AGAIN
Apparently, Weinstein thinks he can order extra elections???
WASHINGTON (CNN) – Hillary Clinton supporter Harvey Weinstein threatened to cut off contributions to congressional Democrats unless House Speaker Nancy Pelosi embraced his plan to finance revotes in Florida and Michigan, three officials familiar with their conversation said.

Weinstein and Pelosi talked on the phone late last month, the sources said.

The three officials spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk publicly about the conversation.

They said Weinstein, a top supporter of Clinton's presidential campaign, appeared determined to buy Clinton more time in her battle against Sen. Barack Obama by pushing for the revote. He was also pressing Pelosi to back off her previous comments that superdelegates should support the candidate who's leading in pledged delegates in early June, the sources said.

    2013
Harvey Weinstein sold Kristen Stewart to an Arab prince for $500,000 (for charity)
Could be completely innocent, but still feels icky especially with the NYT article.
First of all, Weinstein gleefully confessed that he’d sold a sit-down with “Twilight” star Kristen Stewart for charity funds. Apparently the “Prince of an Arabian country” was offering to pay top dollar for a fifteen-minute chat with the chronically awkward actress.

Weinstein called Stewart and filled her in on the situation. “She said ‘How much?’ My kind of girl,” he quipped. The mogul and the prince were eventually able to agree to a $500,000 donation. In cash. The prince, Stewart and a number of bodyguards enjoyed a lovely fifteen minutes together during the concert. (The concert went on to raise $30 million.)

And of course his defense of...wait for it...Roman Polanski

    2009
Roman Polanski arrested on 1978 US arrest warrant
    Polanski megathread.

Look at the wording of this statement from Harvey Weinstein, who wrote about the news in the Los Angeles Times.
I think Polanski has already paid a horrible, soul-wrenching price for the infamy surrounding his actions,” Weinstein wrote. “The real tragedy is that he will always, till his death, be snubbed and stalked and confronted by people who think the price he has paid isn’t enough.”
The “real tragedy”? In 1977, Polanski pleaded guilty to having unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor. The price he has paid is to live in a nice house in Paris. Whatever your opinion of Parisians, I don’t think you could call their city horrible and soul-wrenching. Neither this nor a bit of snubbing is as high a price as serving a full sentence in prison.
In the United States, powerhouse movie producer Harvey Weinstein is trying to recruit more supporters for Polanksi.
"We are calling every filmmaker we can to help fix this terrible situation," his company told CNN in a statement.
In Hollywood, influential movie mogul Harvey Weinstein's call earlier this week for U.S. filmmakers to lobby against Polanski's extradition has fallen on many deaf ears.
In an opinion piece in London's the Independent, Weinstein Co. co-founder Harvey Weinstein, who is circulating the pro-Polanski petition, wrote: "Whatever you think about the so-called crime, Polanski has served his time. A deal was made with the judge, and the deal is not being honored. . . . This is the government of the United States not giving its word and recanting on a deal, and it is the government acting irresponsibly and criminally."
US film guru Harvey Weinstein delivers: “My friend has served his time and must be freed.”

Powerful, misogynistic men make me sick. I wish we could stick Weinstein and Trump in a boat and let them sail into the next hurricane without life vests.

The whole thing about his power diminishing makes sense. I'm not as mad at Meryl as I was this morning. Unless you have proof and a ton of people to come forward, what can be done? It's a sickening situation.

When Trump didn't get tarred and feathered last year for his comments, I was shocked, but there have been interesting stories about how on the day it was released not more than 30 minutes later Wikileaks put out the Podesta emails. An hour before the Trump video went out, there was a story about how Russia was interfering in the election. It got buried by the Access Hollywood tape...which was then countered by the email leak. Fascinating.

Harvey Weinstein begged top Hollywood CEOs and entrepreneurs for their last-minute support in a “desperate” email that he sent shortly before he was fired amid the growing list of sexual harassment accusations against him, according to a report out Monday.

Media strategist at Eldridge Industries LLC, the holding company for The Hollywood Reporter-Billboard Media Group, Janice Min, took to Twitter on Monday to post the email in which the movie mogul pleaded for support from “the industry.”

“My board is thinking of firing me. All I’m asking, is let me take a leave of absence and get into heavy therapy and counseling. Whether it be in a facility or somewhere else, allow me to resurrect myself with a second chance. A lot of the allegations are false as you know but given therapy and counseling as other people have done, I think I’d be able to get there,” the letter began, according to Min. “I could really use your support or just your honesty if you can’t support me.”

Hollywood “power players” including the onetime Disney boss and Dreamworks co-founder Jeffrey Katzenberg and NBCUniversal Vice Chairman Ron Meyer refused to help, Min added.
Weinstein’s letter continued: “But if you can, I need you to send a letter to my private email address. The letter would only go to the board and no one else. We believe what the board is trying to do is not only wrong but might be illegal and would destroy the company. If you could write this letter backing me, getting me the help and time away I need, and also stating your opposition to the board firing me, it would help a lot. I am desperate for your help. Just give me the time to have therapy. Do not let me be fired. If the industry supports me, that is all I need.”
Weinstein added, “With all due respect, I need the letter today.”
Min said the letter was read to her by a “disgusted” male recipient.

One big player who refused to respond positively to Weinstein's email plea tells me he replied in essence: "no f-ing chance"
    5:11 PM - Oct 9, 2017

The plea for support didn’t seem to help. The Weinstein Company film studio announced Sunday that its directors fired Weinstein after the New York Times reported he settled sexual harassment lawsuits with at least eight women.

"In light of new information about misconduct by Harvey Weinstein that has emerged in the past few days, the directors of The Weinstein Company - Robert Weinstein, Lance Maerov, Richard Koenigsberg and Tarak Ben Ammar - have determined, and have informed Harvey Weinstein, that his employment with The Weinstein Company is terminated, effective immediately," the company's board of representatives said in a statement given to Fox News.
Weinstein's alleged inappropriate behavior with women in the last 30 years was detailed in the bombshell Times report published Thursday. Since the initial report, other women have come forward with similar accusations.

Harvey Weinstein on Thursday issued a lengthy statement that acknowledged that, "a lot of pain," was caused.
“I came of age in the 60’s and 70’s, when all the rules about behavior and workplaces were different. That was the culture then. I have since learned it’s not an excuse, in the office – or out of it. To anyone. I realized some time ago that I needed to be a better person and my interactions with the people I work with have changed. I appreciate the way I’ve behaved with colleagues in the past has caused a lot of pain, and I sincerely apologize for it…”

Weinstein and his legal team have also have criticized the New York Times' report in statements and interviews. They also announced in the days after that he was intending to file a lawsuit against the newspaper for $50 million in damages.
Meanwhile, a former Times reporter claims she had dirt on Weinstein back in 2004 but the story was spiked by editors.
