    You're right. As you get stronger, you can handle heavier weights as your *lighter* weight, if that makes sense. But unless you're into serious body building, there will be a point where a particular weight will always feel heavy and be challenging beyond a few reps. To stay toned, you simply work with weights below that. You can pyramid lighter weights in a toning program so that you are using a couple of lighter weights and a heavier weight in a session. Personally, I don't think you'll do much for yourself in the way of fitness by using a single weight. A combo is better.
