Sunglasses helped mine some. I would work in the dark with sunglasses and some imitrex and was able to get some things done alternating with just laying on the floor of my office in the dark. Last year they kept getting worse and worse and 2-3x a week where I just had to go home when one started to come on. Then last May, I had emergency gallbladder surgery (freaking nightmare and ended up with 26 staples across my abdomen after 6 hours of surgery, my first and only time in the hospital). After surgery, I have maybe one a month and it's usually tied to my period. Don't know what it was that was setting them off, but it's gone now (I hope).

I know migraines can cause photo sensitivity so the glasses made sense, in theory. I just couldn't understand working 8 hours in a busy, brightly lit, loud office while suffering a migraine.

Glad yours got better Orange. I wonder if there was some link between gallbladder and migraine? 26 staples for what is normally a laparoscopic surgery? Was some Ripley/alien shit going on in there?

Yeah, felt like it. They started with the laparoscopic, but the dr said there were adhesions that were the worst he'd seen (I dunno exactly what that means), and the duct from the liver was completely blocked. I know whatever it was somehow affected the migraines because of the radical difference before and after. Glad to be rid of the pain, but I still hate the scar.

    Adhesions are scar tissue.

I had a coworker who had migraines all her life until she got cancer. She said that she never had one again after she completed treatment, we speculated either the radiation or the chemo got rid of it.

Maybe they're misinformed. I was always under the impression that migraines are headaches on one side of your head, unless they're silent migraines, when you just have aura without the headache. I thought that was the minimum needed to qualify as a migraine, and that they vary in severity.

I've recently found out that tension headaches can occur on one side of the head. It didn't help that I'm prone to "weekend migraines" that are debilitating.

I frequently have low level migraines that I work through. I sometimes wear shades in the office because the overhead lights can make them full blown migraines, which I canít function through. Light hitting my eyes at certain angles just pushes the headache over the edge.

^ I do this as well occasionaly. Also, sometimes after a migraine attack I'm very sensitive to lights for a couple of days so I wear sunglasses. I would wear them in the office as well but it's just... weird. So I turn off the overhead lights and turn down the brightness of the screen and I'm fine.

the thing i dislike most about migraines is even if you make the pain manageable you still have the weird sensitivities, certain voices are like nails on a chalkboard. honestly, i like to fall asleep every night to something and i've been using the golden girls since last summer because their voices aren't shrill and don't affect my head. it's still so super uncomfortable. luckily i mostly get them during my period. i used to break out, then that stopped and i was like yay! unfortunately migraines replaced zits. you just can't win.
