Cameron hasn't been married, cheated on with a once gorgeous actress (before the Crypt Keeper look took hold) and then divorced by a man who went on to be the father of a tribe. That allows her to play the free spirited type rather than being viewed as used goods who couldn't keep to the seven minute blowjob rule and therefore lost her man. When it comes to women being an eternal bachelorette is infinitely more acceptable than being a divorcee because then you are either a desperate woman who is threat to all other marriages or someone to be pitied.

Cameron always has to play up the 'i love being single' angle in interviews, which is the same sort of shit narrative. Male actors don't have constantly harp on how much they LOVE being single. Anniston has to be sad because duh, Brad Pitt left her. And when your man leaves you for another woman, it's ALL your fault.

What about Bullock? She was married for years to a horrific guy and dropped him. She adopted a child and doesn't seem compelled to be seen with a boyfriend. There doesn't seem to be a "poor Sandra" narrative.

But "supposedly" Brad was a cheater, too. And Aniston could always do what Bullock did (if she wanted kids), and adopt. Is Aniston being defined by one failed marriage?

Aniston is defined by a failed marriage to complete assholes, not the rest of us. If she really wanted a kid, she could have one......But the better story for America is 'poor girl, no man, no babies, no life value'. It's rare that someone says about her "oh after being married to a cheating scumbag she's cautious about doing it again" (which is something I see often IRL), it's always 'she can't keep a man'. It's an anti woman narrative.

I like Aniston. I don't feel sorry for her. I think the only negative thing I associate with her is that she seems to be the same person in every movie, and I'm not sure how to feel about Justin Theroux.

I also like long-time single actresses like Diaz, Marisa Tomei and Annabella Sciorra. I'm starting to think that women actually live longer, and age more slowly, without husbands.

^Yes, her movies definitely leave something to be desired. All those type of movies in general aren't my thing. Btw- you like the same girls as my oldest brother, he just loves Annabella Sciorra.

I think Jennifer Aniston is doing just fine. I also don't think it's her fault, at all, that people chose to define her as a miserable, doomed to be alone for life, single. I don't think she's ever done a complete pity interview. The GQ interview was something that everyone was expecting and she did it. Not a big deal. JA was blamed for her husband cheating because she wouldn't have kids with him. Well, it's a good thing she didn't. I don't for one second believe that someone wouldn't cheat because they had a child at home with the wife.

As for the kid thing, Jennifer's parents had a pretty shitty divorce. A lot of women, myself included, are somewhat hesitant about possibly subjecting a child to that sort of environment.

^^ I agree. I think people that define her as miserable are projecting to a degree. There are still people in this world who truly believe that a woman just cannot be happy with a husband and children. And some people would be miserable without those things, but it certainly does not apply to all women.
