Just watched the first two videos of Marks Headleys story and wow...how on earth can people be such misguided fools to want to join this cult that demoralizes people even more than a jail would. In fact I think american jails are easy going places compared to a Scientology organisation.

Feeling like you have a special place in the universe is damn attractive.

But one only maintains this special place as long as no questions asked.

A $cientologist isn't only saving himself, he is saving the world, the universe, reality itself from those evil psychiatrists and pesky body thetans. What's a little humiliation against that grand sense of purpose?

You shouldnt have to feel or be humiliated to have purpose.........how can you be proud of "your special place in the universe" if you feel like a wrung out, over worked, sleep deprived, beaten, abused, penniless, fool, who fell for the bullshit speil ? You cant save the world when you feel like hell.

This reminds me of Tom Cruise's Youtube where he was saying that only Scientologists can save a motorist that done crashed on the side of the road.

I hear you. I don't get it at all. The universe be damned if I can't get morning coffee and treat myself to long soothing showers.

Maybe it's a competition about who can sacrifice the most (sort of like anorexia - who can survive on the least.) I dunno.

I've read a number of testimonials of ex-members who joined the Sea Org. Even after blowing the insanity, they still pine for "sense of purpose." Often they remember the early days of belonging, the successes of their auditing, and group striving towards a goal as some of the happiest of their lives. 'Course, it all goes rotten. They stay on for years, hoping that those early days will return.

I believe my supreme laziness has saved me from ever joining a cult. Too much work for that sense of belonging.

I think I may have converted to Scientology last night. I found myself talking to an empty bottle of wine for about an hour.

I'd love to get some more insight on this organization. Sounds interesting. Hotel California was a good comparison, so was an asylum but The Shining was the first thing that came to my mind.

candace - go to OperationClambake.com. It's a community of former $cientologists - you'll get an eye full there, I promise.

Heh, at first I didn't see the 'the' and thought that Blown Good was a great name for a Scientology book that includes Tom Cruise.

Yep you are right and you know what that sounds like??? Drugs......you get a great high and then it becomes less and you keep hoping and searching for that same high..OR ....it also sounds like LOVE in an abusive relationship. You get all the great love at the start and wonderful euphoric feelings and then the abuse starts and you live in hope of the relationship being like it used to be. Your last statement "they stay on for years hoping the early days wil return" is just so true of all those things.
